Seems as though the email computer scams are on the raise again.

Let's see, so far I have won the Canadan Lotto, the Email Lotto, the US Email Lotto, the Spanish Lotto, and I think that every Nigrian has my email address along with those from the Treasury Department that want to give me money. Just because I have never entered any of this lottos does not seem to matter, or meet any of the kind Nigrains who need my help does not seems to matter all that much.

Remember if it seems to good to be true it is.

Also be careful opening some of these emails as a lot of them have an attached program that will add a trojan horse to your computer to send all your key strokes to another server. That way the sender can grather all your usernames and passwords for financial sites, shopping sites, etc.,and you end up buy lots of stuff that you did know that you wanted. LOL

Best bet is to delete any email that you don't recognize or any email with a subject line indicating you won, get picked or need your help, even if you recognize the email address. If its a friend, call them on a phone.

Hope that this helps someone not be taken and lose money.

Good advice. Some stuff I don't open even if I know who sent it...especially attachments.

Now, if we could just keeeep them off our phones! According to a news report the other night, they're finding ways to get around the 'Do Not Call' lists.

dillywho, I have found a sure fire method of getting them to drop my number from all the call lists.

When you get a marketing call that you don't want, just ask the caller, is a deep gravelly voice, "Whatcha wearin? Are ya naked?" They hang up and your number goes on a don't ever call this number, a pervert lives there. Works for me and in about 2 months no more calls ever.

First, congratulations on your incredible winning streak. Second, can I borrow some of your winnings?

You're right though. You should never click on a link or open an attachment unless you completely trust the sender. Even then, you should know that unscrupulous senders can "steal" the identity of people you trust.

True. But beware: You can potentially receive e-mails from a sender you know. People get their e-mail addresses hijacked all the time. If the content/context of the e-mail seems suspicious, delete it, ignore it, or contact your friend the supposed sender to see if it's legit.

Rec'd 2 e-mails from a nephew. Each time, there was only 1 sentence..someting like "try this stuff, it's great" and then a link to click. I thought it weird that there was no "personal touch" to the e-mail. I called him up and he said "yes, it is a virus". So you can receive a virus from an e-mail address you recognize. Beware

All very good advice. This just happened to me. One of my bank accounts was hacked (I believe by the Trojan Horse gimmick, previously mentioned). Luckily, i was in the process of closing the account so there wasn't much money in it.

The hacker purchased a gun and also paid a california company for location info. on an individual in connecticut. Besides the fact that it took me a month to straighten out this mess, it also took a lot of time and phone calls from me to attempt to circumvent another possible crime from taking place.

The account is now closed and all monies were recovered and nothing else came of it, but it sure made me reconsider all of this internet stuff. Wow!

Brings to mind a scam of a different nature....a couple of years ago, I dutifully purchased gas at the Shell on 466...a few days later, I got a call from my Credit Union asking if I had been in Bangkok or the Phillipines..turned out that a hacker had gotten at the CC numbers of the nightly consolidator..so ON THE SAME DAY scammers were buying electroincis in a store in Bangkok to the tune of $4500 AND withdrawing cash in the Phillipines to the tune of $1200....of course, I got it all back. However, I did get one credit card that I use ONLY for gas purchases, etc. with a lower limit so if it is scammed, it will be caught more quickly. I also scan my CC and bank statements every month to make sure they are OK. You can't be too vigilant these days.

Never happen with my CC. If its used out of the area and I have not notified them, the charge is denied. We went on vacation in Mexico and wife wanted an expensive piece of jewerly. Had to call them, give them lots of id information before they would approve the transactions. Learned that they have to be notified when we go on vacation or leave the state.

Sounds like your issuing bank could be Citi. That's how they monitor our cards - I'm sure other banks do this as well. If not, they should.

When we're going out of town on vacation, I simply call them ahead of time, give them the dates we'll be gone, let them know what states we'll be traveling in - - - and it all works like a charm!

BTW, I just won another lotto game for 25 mil. This was a worldwide drawing lotto on my email address. Just sent them $280 processing fee and they will wire me all that money. Told them, "Check is the in Mail," ya right. Hope they hold their breath until it gets there.
