I am due to purchase a new or lightly used mini van, and currently a homeowner in TV & Wisconsin. Is it more cost effective to buy outside of Florida with regard to sales tax, title & registration? Also there's a huge selection of used rentals for sale in the Orlando area, is it wise to purchase one of these?

Agree. Most items in the Villages are OVERPRICED. We buy outside of the bubble and avoid mentioning we are Villagers.

I would just go to dealer In Wisconsin see. Then when you’re in villages got to dealer and compare. Just make sure it’s final price not before they sneak in all the markups. I would also think depends on where you licensed the vehicle? You would have to compare Wisconsin fees vs Florida fees? Then on top of that insurance comparison.

If you are going to register the car in Florida (assuming this is your state of residency), then the sales tax will be paid to Florida no matter where you buy the car. The dealer in another state will know how to handle it.

Highly recommend Vann Gannaway Chevrolet in Eustis! It's nearby, no added costs (like other dealers in the area), easy to work with, and 1st class service!

If you plan on eventually registering the car in Florida, add the price of registering an out of state car to your considerations.

I am a Florida resident. Bought my last new car, a CRV 4 wheel drive, outside of Rochester NY where I have a long standing relationship. Dealer had a third party that for $100 at the time took care of Florida sales tax and transfer of Florida plates. Went smoothly.

Prices of cars are higher in and around TV as most of used cars are low mile vehicles. We have a 3 1/2 year old car and it has 15k miles on it. Also, most cars in TV are garage kept. Sales taxes(in Florida) are based upon your address, not the address of the dealer. This used to be an issue. but now most counties tax rate is 7%

You could try shopping online to get your best deal. Also check loan rates before you go to purchase if you are not paying cash and if you are paying cash don’t tell them until you are ready to sign. Check Clearmont dealers for a better price but if you are not saving a lot then buy local. |

I would buy here hoping to avoid the salt that they put on the roads in Wisconsin that causes so much rust and damage. Avoid the coasts here too.

IMO the rusted out caused the owners not wash salt off underneath as soon as temperatures get above freezing. I lived in upper Midwest for 35 years had little rust problems with vehicles around 10 years old or so. But, I religiously wash underneath after every time I had to drive in salted roads.

We bought a new Toyota last April in Northern Illinois and saved about 2 grand after the cost to fly up and get it. Florida car dealers have real high doc fees compared to a lot of other states. We did not pay extra taxes when I moved the title to Florida. We had originally bought it in my name and our son's name who lived in Illinois. When we got the title I switched it to Florida and removed his name from the title. Wisconsin probably has less fees than Florida
