Depending on the model vehicle you have you might have to spend $200 to $500 to replace a electric window regulator, consider the $20 as window regulator insurance.

If they are for golf cart safety, a stop sign would serve the same purpose and is MUCH cheaper to operate. Ive never believed the golf cart argument since there are many gates at areas without cart crossings.

Stop signs don’t work, people blow right past them. I complained in a prior thread and the jerk wrote these stop sign are voluntary, you don’t need to stop.
People complain paining about $20? This has to be a joke! For many years, we’ve had the sensors in our mirrors that open the gate when we drive up next to it. No fumbling for cards, rolling down the window in a rain storm getting everything wet. I’ve sat at a gate behind somebody taking 20 or more seconds to find their card, roll down their window, and I’m ready to blast the horn at them or start yelling. It’s ridiculous! We lived in a community that went from a card to a windshield sticker and the worked great. Much faster because they can see you coming from further away. |

Besides always obnoxious, I always wonder if some are just taking inventory of whatever they can see, and seeing if a snow-bird or permanent res. I try to nicely tell them that there are many of us that just don't want to be disturbed - no matter what we are doing - nor what they are pushing. A legit company can use mail, newspaper, radio, , , Please get rid of them. |

I watch a guy on YouTube that said he has a sensor in his driver's side mirror that raises the gate. Is anyone else familiar with that technology?

It's widely reported the gates are only eye candy to sell more houses. However, if the real purpose is to slow car traffic for a "safer cart crossing" (*1*) then the gates can all be put into construction mode FOR FREE. Still forces cars to stop, but nothing new is need to buy, install, or maintain. No $20 fee to residents.
EXACT SAME OUTCOME FOR FREE. Car pulls up to gate, stops, gate opens. No card needed. Can somebody explain why they are choosing to spend $Millions to create the exact same thing that construction mode can do for free? Gates are still there, so just justify spending all the money. OUR MONEY (*1*) IF it's to make a cart crossing safer, then why are there gates on Fenney Way between Fenney and DeSoto? There is no cart crossing there. And also many other places with no cart crossing have gates. |

The cards work through the glass. You don't need to roll the window down.

THANK YOU, VT! I was going to say there's a REASON for the gate system AS IT IS. What's the hurry is my question?

I will pay $20 after a proposal several years ago put the cost at $60. Replacement cards are $15.

So true. Hopefully this won't allow cars to just breeze thru the gates. They need to stop and look each way for safety.

Yes...but you're assuming everyone will stop at the stop 🛑. Not gonna happen. Doesn't really matter whether you believe in the golf cart argument, it's fact. The gates AND cameras are there for a reason that's been clearly defined. The gates of which you speak are there for a reason as well: to give the illusion of us being a gated community...as I said, cameras at those gates as well. Also consider this: with no gates, the traffic increases. People now will go around TV rather than through.

They have double pane windows for noise abatement so the “card against the window” trick does not work. |

In my former workplace (I retired just few months ago), they use the EZPass transponder to open the gate to the office complex (no charges to the employees.)
Bottom line: almost every car has a transponder (EZPass, SunPass, etc) and the gate can simply read that instead of yet another thing you need to purchase and keep in the car. For those who do not have / use transponders, some of the services in Florida (e.g. SunPass) have no monthly fee. |
