We just purchased a home in McClure although we initially thought we'd build in Marsh Bend which is so beautiful and peaceful with the walking trails and trees. However, this house is perfect for us and we've already met neighbors who will be moving in. While homes are important, neighbors and friends are what make your experience. We walk/ride bikes...no golf cart yet, and I'm not missing it. Everyone has something that is important to them, so denigrating someone else's choice is mean spirited especially when you don't have personal experience, only hearsay. So meriboo, visit all of the areas, each has something special; rent a place for a period of time to help yourself figure out what is important to you. Develop your own opinions and don't rely on others. Best wishes with your journey!

Isn't Fenney part of Southern Oaks?

For me though (and different strokes for different folks), I personally still think the 'Heart of The Villages'...will always be about a 4 mile radius around Lake Sumter Landing.
I agree, and we bought just northeast of that radius. Hey maybe the Developers could consider expanding north of Schwartz. Then, the hysterical side could become the heart again!

Those are my thoughts. Am I not supposed to have the ability to offer my thoughts on a public forum? Isn't this forum for sharing thoughts?

Seems to me any statements someone has to offer that people do not agree with becomes "bashing".

You can't blame these people for holding out to get the most they can out of their properties, it was the same way in Lady Lake and Fruitland Park where there still stand a lot of "undesirable" homes just beyond Drake Road and all around TV. Just because these people cannot afford to live in a fancy house doesn't make them criminals and as a matter of fact most, but not all, of the crimes reported around TV are north of 44 and especially north of 466, very little crime down here so just keep in mind all of the crime that is surrounding "your bubble" up there. I'm not bashing the northern villages, this is just the way I feel.
Thank you for informing me and those reading this thread that some of the homes have been torn down. I'm very happy to hear the seedy areas will become strip malls. That is awesome news for those living in the southern areas.

I walked all over my area in Orange Blossom when I was down there in March and had no problem at all. I took the golf cart to find the pool, got lost and wandered aimlessly just to see everything (I like doing that) in the cart. I didn't see a single walker having any trouble at all. There were a couple of people on bicycles I worried about, but that's because OB is an actual HILL and in my mind, 70-somethings on bicycles might find riding uphill to be a challenge. Of course they proved me wrong.

No sidewalks, everyone rides, walks, bikes on the road. And everyone seems to have respect for each others' space.

As for Fenney and the rest of Southern Oaks, it was mostly still vacant and for sale when we did our Lifestyle visit, with many lots not yet built. I'm sure it's lovely now, and I know of at least one agent who works for the Villages and lives there now, and absolutely loves it there.

I think it's all about what you want from your home and your neighborhood. If you want something so new that it's not even finished yet, Southern Oaks is the place to be. You can watch the builds and be witness to its creation with a front-row seat. If you want something totally lived-in, that is in the process of evolution with new slowly replacing the old, OB is where it's happening. If you want to be surrounded by commerce but want your personal space somewhat distanced, I'd say the areas between Spanish Spring and Sumter is choice.

If you absolutely need a golf cart upon movein, I'd rule out Southern Oaks for now, and you can always revisit the idea once they finish the roads.

Then....what exactly is Southern Oaks? Is it a village or an area that incorporates several villages? I thought Fenney was part of Southern Oaks. Now I'm confused more than normal. This isn't good

Gracie. I keep thinking about your admonition that there is no Pee in Lake Sumter. It took years, but almost no one misspells Sumter now. How 'bout There is an E in Fenney? There must be some catchy jingle I'm not clever enough to come up with.

Exactly.

God forbid we should have to drive through any area not as perfect as our own. Let's circle the wagons.
