Default New owner questions

We purchased a 3 bedroom Summerhill property in May and are coming down next week for a short visit. Our plan is to rent the house (at least peak season) until we can move down in about 5 years.

1. If we get Direct TV, are we allowed to put the dish on the roof?

2. Would it be pushy to invite the neighbors over for snacks and drinks? Would you come to a new neighbors house in an established neighborhood?

3. I have learned how to play Mah Jonng online. Is there very easy beginners class?

Thanks for your help. I learn something every day on this sight.

When we moved into our home, we moved into an established neighborhood where most of the neighbors had all moved in about the same time 4 yrs earlier. We decided to throw a little party to meet everyone and invited our new neighbors. We were a bit nervous about doing this and were not sure anyone would show up. To our delight, everyone came and it was a fun night. What we didn't realize at the time, (but learned later) was our neighbors were really happy we threw the party because they had been hoping their new neighbor would be "fun people". Apparently when they got our invitation to the party, they said they knew we would fit into the neighborhood!

Congratulations and welcome to Summerhill, Kristen!

I don't think having a get-together is pushy at all. In fact, your neighbors should be hosting one for you! Established block or not, who doesn't like a party?

The District 3 deed restrictions document is available at http://www.districtgov.org/departmen...ct3-Matrix.pdf

Satellite dishes are permitted.

There are several Mah Jongg classes in the clubs listing, so you should be cool to find something suitable:

Oh, and if you get DirecTV as a new subscriber, PM me for a referral discount. Ha! I've never used one, but we'd each get $10/month off for a year or something.

I would love to come to a neighbors party, and I agree it's a wonderful way to meet new neighbors. As to your mah johgg question, I am hoping there is a beginner's class. I just bought a set and have been reading online directions but I think actually getting into a beginners group is the only way to really learn. Good luck with your new home and your new group of tile friends when you find them. Welcome!
