Question Flying the American flag properly

I am wondering why there is no official source here in the Villages that gives a notice when the flag (those that can be lowered) should be lowered to half staff. I see a lot of flags on poles that have a lanyard that are still raised in spite of tragedies (like the south Texas massacre). Even the flags at the different Villages locations are still flying high. This is not right. The least we can do is to show support for those who have given all. There is a web site that tells you when to lower the flag, the American Legion is one of those sites.

Can look at this but I think it only applies to government flags (federal and state)?

Good grief. Why not just be happy that people want to fly the flag?

Yes, you are right to fly flags correctly. Furthermore, all the extraneous colored stripes and goofy depictions on the American Flag is ridiculous! That's desecrating the flag. Vets must be appalled.

For those who may not know, with Memorial Day coming up: the American flag should be flown at half mast on Memorial Day from sun up until noon only, and then briskly raised to full mast. If you're going to do it, do it right.

Uh, seriously? There are proper and not so proper ways to flag THE FLAG. Flying the flag improperly is a sign of disrespect to the flag. Many of us here volunteer for service to go to war for that war, and we take offense at people being disrespectful of it.

People WANT to do a lot of things, but just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should.

I understand that your post is intended to mean that we would be happy to see people being patriotic, but being disrespectful of the flag is NOT patriotic, it is disrespectful. I would go so far as to say, flying the flag without bothering to learn HOW to show respect is nothing short of "VIRTUE SIGNALING".

So, yeah, I will NOT be happy that people are flying the flag improperly.

I agree, and I will go so far as to say those using these modified American flags would be the first to scream and yell if someone burned one, claiming it is disrespectful.

I have seen all too many instances around the Villages where residents keep their flag up day in and day out, night in and night out (without illumination) where the flag that is being flown is in tatters.

While I am sure the above referenced flag flyers are patriotic, they are really flying the flag improperly.

Remember replace your flags when they become tattered. Do not display a flag at night without the proper illumination. If you are proud to fly your flag, fly it responsibly!

I honestly don't expect people to do that. I'm just happy to see the red, white and blue flying proudly on any mast. I put out those small flags at the end of our driveway and I'm proud to display them for our patriotic holidays. Sorry, but my small flags are not lit up at night.

Totally agree, well said. "If you are proud to fly your flag, fly it responsibly!" (and respectfully)

If you do not how or do not want to fly the flag correctly, then do not fly it.
