Yes, you have overpaid your Federal taxes. I got a refund last year. In my case my husband had paid the taxes, became very sick and I paid them again. They refunded me the money almost by return. Great service.

I know what you mean about long waits on hold.

I think we all know about those ridiculous, time-wasting holds.

But — I DO NOT know why snarky answers to help-seeking questions show up so often on TOTV. (sigh)

Probably relates to taxes and the IRS. If it does I think you might get a letter in a few days explaining.
You can access your IRS account here. Your Online Account | Internal Revenue Service Do not know if it will have your answer.

Don't be sorry. You didn't do anything wrong. Some people just like being snarky.

As someone else wrote, it may be beneficial to open an online account on the IRS website. It is useful for many things like tracking your return, payment history and making estimated payments, etc.

If you did a paper the IRS computers probably caught a small math error.

Far too little to inquire about.

If you must check your taxpayer account online.

Check Claims - I Want To...

Quote:
Find Information About a Payment
If you received a check or EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payment from Treasury and do not know why it was sent to you, the regional financial center (RFC) that sent the payment can provide more information. To determine which RFC to contact, select the type of payment and follow the instructions below.

If the payment is a Treasury check: the city and state of the RFC are printed at the top center of the check. Once you have determined which RFC sent the payment- either Philadelphia 855-868-0151 or Kansas City 855-868-0151 - contact them to see which federal agency authorized the check.

If the payment is an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payment: the Company/Batch Header Record contains information about the payment in the form of codes and symbols. Match these to the following to determine what the symbols on your payment represent:

Symbol Number

Located in Field 3 - Company Name - of the Company/Batch Header Record. Each Symbol Number corresponds to a RFC:

220
Austin Regional Financial Center (Austin, TX)
310
Kansas City Regional Financial Center (Kansas City, MO)
303
Philadelphia Regional Financial Center (Philadelphia, PA)
Routing Number

Thanks for posting this. My USPS daily email showed something from the IRS yesterday and I was too scared to go get the mail.

Yeah, I got one, along with a note that says it is taxable income.

So I am going to put it in the bank.
