Default Question

Can anyone tell me what this is? It's in my driveway. I added the ruler for a reference.

It is a survey pin indicating the property line.

Why would the property line be in the middle of the driveway?

I looks like a courtyard villa where the driveways cross over the property line between the adjacent properties. The actual property line runs midway between the houses.

In the courtyard villa communities north of 44 with the curved driveways these pins are in almost every driveway to mark the actual property line. The egress right of way across the actual property line caused by the driveways is the reason why homeowners are not allowed to put patterns and designs or pavers on their driveway. If your neighbor didn’t like your pattern or color they could paint over the section of your driveway on their property, imagine the discourse in the neighborhood that would cause.

No. That's in our driveway.

It could be a washer off his chastity belt?

You would need to look at the plat, but I don't think you own the property all the way to the road.

Actually there is a plot plan with areas of responsibility for each homeowner that override the property survey lines. On the driveways the adjacent homeowner can opt to paint or not paint up to the marker at narrowest area between the driveways. Otherwise if the survey lines were followed half the driveway could be painted with the other half not. Confusing but the plot map makes it easier to understand.

Exactly... I'm in a courtyard villa and I have the same thing. The properties intermingle. I wish it wasn't done like this, but it is.

Attachment 90670

It is a property line marker.
It marks the beginning or end of a curve in the street side line.
Look in your paperwork that came with your house and find the plot plan. The marker will be shown in your driveway. The district owns up to that marker.
Hope that helps.

Fortunately my Charlotte Village CYV is a corner lot but my marker is in the middle of my neighbors driveway. I only have to deal with the one side.
