Default Wood Fire Pits Allowed?

Fire Pits allowed? What if your neighbor has a wood burning fire pit and the odor of the wood and smoke over takes your home. We can't enjoy sitting outside. Closing all windows seems to be the only option.

Default Conversation

Did you try to communicate with the neighbor? Sometimes communication works well.

Try a duraflame instead. No smoke for neighbors and no mess with ashes and the danger of sparks.

Some people are so inconsiderate....I have to put up with that at the "other" house. I feel your pain!

Check with someone who actually knows the legality of open fires here. Once you get an answer, maybe you can have a conversation with the neighbor if you dare. After that, check with the local firefighters about nuisance fires, they may respond and have the offender put it out.

I believe the original poster was just asking a question ... “What if ....”. I did not understand this was a complaint, rather trying to understand if there were any restrictions.

I'm pretty sure wood burning firepits are OK unless the county has issued and outdoor burning ban.

So that leads to the question of common courtesy. In most cases there isn't a sufficient yard size to not have to take your neighbors into consideration.

The OP asked, then went on to say how they couldn't enjoy sitting outside because of a neighbors fire pit. So no, to me it was more of a statement, not a question. And no, as another poster suggested, there is nothing prohibiting them unless and until a burn ban is in effect. And even then, I don't know that a true fire pit is prohibited.

Try calling what county you reside In and get the correct information. Better than guessing

I’m in Sumter, when I was considering a fire pit I called TV Fire Department. At that time I was told there were no restrictions on wood burning models. I went with an LP model instead. The houses are close enough along with those residents with respiratory issues.

Hard to imagine these things are allowed. Houses are built extremely close together. If you have asthma, it's time to move. Who needs a fire pit in Florida anyway? Not hot enough for you?

We love our (propane) fire pit. Nothing better than sitting around it on a chilly evening, or morning.

I hereby extend an invitation to my neighbor to, by all means, purchase and use a wood burning fire pit. To reciprocate, you might consider giving up the cigars.
