Come on, Shadow, that photo is of the train yard. There is ONE track that goes from Wildwood north toward Ocala, parallel to 301. Let's not get hysterical.

Trains are good for the economy and good for the environment.

Did I say 9 tracks in Wildwood? They are just left overs and had to be stored someplace I suppose. It probable has nothing to do with capacity required to handle train volume. By the way when Sun Rail starts service freight traffic will be rerouted thur Wildwood and Lakeland. Lakeland has complained but it does not help.

Trains are good for the economy; right the only train that is self supporting is up by DC the rest a federally funded. You know tax dollars.

From the link to the Ocala.com article above:

"...the freight traffic would not shift until spots along the S line, including some in Marion County, are upgraded to handle the extra volume. That means laying miles of double-tracking — that is, building a parallel track alongside the main line so slower trains can yield to speedier ones — through some areas."

and

"The SunRail plan also called for erecting new or improved overpasses along the S line. That included two in Wildwood"

I would guess that the newly built Wildwood overpass could handle two main line tracks. Wonder of Sumter County will get upgraded to two tracks also?

If US 301 and CR 44 got new overpasses why not CR 42?

Default Love the sound

For my dear hubby the sound of the trains brings back precious childhood memories. Just another thing he loves about this place.

The trains aren't very frequent nor very loud, at least in Tamarind Grove. I'd rather hear the train horn in the distance than the "pock-pock-pock-pock-pock" near the pickle ball courts.

This is a very old thread but I decided to research the train noise that Gracie is always referring to in the Calumet Grove area.......which I never heard at all during one whole month. My husband said he heard it faintly once at a distance. Not a problem.

My question: What is the "village" that is NOT part of THE VILLAGES at all, yet we thought we were looking at homes in THE VILLAGES until the salesman advised us that it was NOT.

It had one nice recreation center, one pool.....etc. and I think a golf course.

The homes we looked at were on a LAKE with a waterspout feature out in the lake and a small boardwalk or dock with a tiny sandy area on the lake.......

When we exited this development, and made a LEFT........we passed a HOSPITAL that had a totally EMPTY parking lot.....and then we crossed over some railroad tracks, turned around and went back the same we we came in.....and were back in THE VILLAGES.

What is the name of that development on the lake? THANKS IN ADVANCE. We just cannot recall the name of it.........but do remember the homes and the GAZEBO on the lake, etc.

The street that it was "off of"......was kind of rural......leading to those railroad tracks right after he hospital I think.......small hospital.

I think that you were at Lakeside Landing (not a part of The Villages) and the hospital was Promise Hospital Oxford. Promise is a long term acute care facility.

I'm pretty sure you are describing Lakeside Landings on Rainey Trail (CR 472).

Rainey trail runs off of Buena Vista near Bridgeport at Lake Miona and Bridgeport at Miona Shores and that is where the new small one story Promise Hospital is for wound care.

Past Bridgeport at Miona Shores is Lakeside landings, but it doesn't have a golf course.

The only hospital I can think of is The Villages Hospital, several stories tall, which is pretty close to Stonecrest that has a fountain and a golfcourse. It is on 441/27 on the northside.

I think you are right....."Lakeside Landing" sounds very familiar.
The salesman had given us some literature which I no longer have, but that name is definitely it. So, that was the town of Oxford?

Somehow I thought we had ended up there by going over the bridge?
Maybe not. It was two years ago. Found it quite by accident. Thought we were still in T.V.

Thank you. Appreciate it.

Is this a pitch for Lakeside Landing homes?
What does it have to do with trains???
