The mask isn’t really on to protect you (although it might help). The mask is on you to protect others. If you care, get one and wear it in public.

"U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams explained the CDC began advising that symptomatic people wear face masks at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then as science showed that the virus could manifest in people as presymptomatic and asymptomatic, the organization expanded its guidance that all people wear face coverings when outside the home." Store policy may or may not be enforced, but customers are needed and if the store wants to lose customers then make a policy which is restrictive of personal choice. I am not saying it is safe to not wear a mask but everyone has the freedom of choice to do so or not. IF I am at a greater risk because someone does not wear a mask then that is the price of freedom. I spent a year in southeast asia fighting a war for their freedom of choice and I respect that no matter how unsafe to themselves and stupid it may be I respect their choice.. I can take precautions against anyone who does not wear a mask and that is my choice. Let's allow personal freedom to choose shall we ....if the store wishes to enforce that policy then we can choose not to shop there too.

Did you call attention to it while at Whole Foods, if not why not?

Whole Foods does not require masks, but store limits 30 people in store at a time, with social distance. Plus it’s a drive to the closest Whole Foods. We go to Gainesville

Same for Trader Joes ..... we were up in Gainesville today and had to wait in line to get in around 3PM. Masks for customers NOT required but they also limited # of customers. It was actually shorter and faster to get there vs. going to the highly infected Orlando area.

QUOTED: CDC continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission. It was off-putting when I walked in, started to walk around a customer who had stopped to examine some bouquets near the entry, and two big beefy guys came barreling through behind me, said "excuse me" and nudged me on their way between me and the other customer. No mask. They went briskly through the store, not caring at ALL about social distancing. At one point one of the two was on the phone saying that "yeah people are complaining that we're not wearing masks." So it's not like they didn't know they were being a*****es. They knew they were, and they just flat out didn't care. These are the people who make me feel that this state, this community, this country is not even ALMOST ready to open up yet. |
