Default Furniture-leather, fabric or other?

Gene and I are excited to have finally bought our home and are looking forward to moving to TV soon. Our next decision is what kind of furniture to buy. Is there an advantage considering Florida's weather to buying leather as opposed to fabric or some other material for the living room furniture? We could use some help in identifying the criteria to use in making that decision. Thanks!

A frequently used material for upholstery in the model homes that are so beautifully decorated is velvet. I like velvet, it comes in a myriad of beautiful colors and wears like iron and can be easily cleaned. I personally like it better than leather which is equally as durable but not nearly available in as many colors..

Eventhough it gets really, really, really hot and humid here furniture fabric is not an issue because we condition the air in homes most of the year. Seems like we are either running air or heat most of the time which maintains a climate controlled environment. Buy what you like and enjoy it.

Microfiber is a great choice. It wears extremely well, has a modern look to it and it so easily spot cleaned. We have microfiber on our sofas in NJ and here in TV.

I have both....bought leather first and then moved that furniture into office area and bought fabric for great room. Weather isn't a problem for indoor furniture as air is on in the warm times and heat is on as needed. As others have said, buy what you like and enjoy it.

Definitely Leather! Nothing like leather to sink into after a long tiring day in TV. Recently furnished our Sanibel home with several pieces of Natuzzi leather...absolutely the most comfortable we have ever owned. Too bad we had to leave a week after having it delivered. But we'll be back...soon!

I find leather slippery. I like microfiber for every day use and cloth fabric for other areas.

Default prefer fabric

but we also have a leather recliner. The leather doesn't have to be cleaned, just wiped off, though. I think if you like leather up north, you'll like it down here.

I disagree with the other posters though, about almost always having heat or a/c on. From late Nov. to late Feb. we usually don't have either running, or if we do, just heat for the cold snap for a couple of days, or A/C for a very few hours in the afternoon if it gets uncomfortable.

If we let the sun in (i.e., open the blinds), it warms up the house nicely on cool days, and I have always liked sleeping in cooler weather. On warm days, we just open the windows and doors after sunset and it usually cools down nicely.

Of course, in a CYV, we feel comfortable leaving windows and sliders open all night with a lock on the gate. No one sees in our windows.
