I have a 14 yr village home with a Summer Kitchen - the original grill in the summer kitchen was a Vermont Castings. The grill has died and Vermont Castings is no longer in business to get a replacement.

Have looked online at many other options but of course none seem to be quite the same size which indicates some modification to the current opening in the counter top may be necessary to accommodate another make of grill.

I recently had T&D screens come (after waiting 3 months just to get them to come out and look) and of course they are telling me that in order to get a new grill I have to have a complete new array of cabinets and countertop etc. to the tune of $16,000.00

There is nothing wrong with my existing cabinets etc. and I don’t think that the sizes of a replacement grill are THAT different that some slight countertop modification wouldn’t accommodate.

Has anyone else had this done, and if so....the usual questions.
Who did the work?
Were you satisfied with the work?
Any other issues that I am not considering for this problem?

I really don’t want to invest $16K to replace a drop in grill!

Don't really have an answer for your countertop issue but I would recommend looking at grills online at bbqguys.com. I ordered from them and they have been very good about sending replacement parts free of charge, even years after purchase. I'm talking low cost things like the rubber grips on the knobs and pins that hold the grates in, but still, very nice to work with.

Good luck. Looks like you need to install a square rod into a round hole. Without seeing what you have it appears you need a clever, highly skilled carpenter, handy man and do not know of anyone who has these credentials. Several years ago Costco sold a BBG with cabinets, small refrigerator and built in sink for < 3K. Have not seen it in a long time but high end BBG store might have this.

If it's replacement parts you need. I had a neighbor that had a similar situation in South Florida. Replacing it with another grill fabricated supports worked fine.

For what it is worth, I have a pellet grill smoker and a Blackstone griddle. I use the griddle all the time and now would never buy a regular gas grill again. I can do everything I want to on the griddle, plus so much more. I am sure you can find something that would insure a proper fit without much if any cabinet modification. Good luck!

I am installing a summer kitchen now. You need three things: a new grill that you like, ideally one nearly the same size.
If it is smaller, Use a sheet of stainless to affix to the the cabinet face (where the front of the grill goes) now cut an opening to fit the new, smaller grill. https://www.cut2sizemetals.com/stain...eel/plate/spl/

If it is a bigger grill and fits the cabinet then skip the steel and just cut a larger opening for it.

Now get a new countertop.

Expensive, yes. But far cheaper than 16,000.

I have an outdoor kitchen that we designed and had built. We have an AOG grill, 30 inch, 3 burner, which costs about $2500. Our contractor, Harbourtown Homes, Rick Anderson, (352) 259-3379 did the work. I dont think you need to replace everything, and if you needed to modify anything I believe it could be done. Its my opinion that some of the larger contractors do not want to mess with small jobs as they have plenty of work. Just my opinion. Good luck. We love our kitchen

Well a griddle might be good, but I still don't see how it imparts the barbecue flavor to things like steaks and dogs? Does it?

there is a nice guy that advertises in the news paper called JB grill. He fixed and clean my Weber which is his main business for $150 plus a few parts. I really suggest you have him come over and look at it, it may take too much as he's busy like everyone else. This might save you a few thousand dollars. If it can't be fixed and it's a real insert I suggest you get a carpenter to rework your kitchen for you to get the right size you can always go smaller and get a frame built to support the grill by anyone that does steel work and welding

We went through the same agony 6 months ago. Vermont died - 4 month wait for T& D to show up - many others will sell a grill but not install - etc, etc. Finally found Rich who owns Advanced Construction and Remodeling 205-4270. He's busy so we waited a couple of weeks to see him. Great guy. Helped us select the right grill and where to buy at the best price. Reworked the cabinet to fit the new larger grill. Built the firebox jacket because standard model was a bad fit. On time, professional work and cleaned up - all at a price that was more than fair. Learned he added an addition to a neighbors house a few years ago and has since done some work for another neighbor. Everyone loves his work.
