Garage Fluorescent is not working, fix or replace?
My garage light isn’t working and I’m thinking about replacing it with a new LED fixture.
Any suggestions? 14 year old property |

Not worth fixing. Buy a new linear led fixture at Home Depot.
Make sure it's the fixture, not the wall switch. |

I would replace with LED, be careful when mounting the new fixture, in our house the original install did NOT have the screws into studs!! I had to find the rafters and use new holes.

Wall switch? The contacts on the tubes might need to be cleaned? Florescent lights are pretty efficient. Leds will save some but I doubt it is enough to matter. Sort of like you car does not run-Is there gas in it? |

It's a bad blast. Fifteen bucks. Worth it? Well no removal of the fixture no unpainted spot, no holes to patch.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-...3507833]Access Denied The cost savings from a seldom used light to led is so long it is not financially worth it to convert |

I just changed a working fluorescent to a "deformable" LED in my garage. Had to install a screw-in fixture, but so much more light. At my old house, I installed an LED strip fixture that cost about $20.
You are welcome to my old light if you want. I live in Polo Ridge. |

Led all the way
I bought 4 on ebay for $30.00 and love them. Instant on, low current draw, and they never burn out. The garage door opener has a movement sensor and it turns one of the lights on when you enter the garage. By the way, each one only weighs about 6 oz, they use a thin metal band to hold them.

Replace
Good-sized LED fixtures are not too expensive and sooo much brighter than fluorescent. And you’ll probably never have to replace a bulb again. Without question…replace the fixture!

Ah, the industrial 50's look with flourescent lights!
I substituted all industrial lights to LEDs everywhere in my parent's house up in NE. Much better, though at our house, home office light frequency does interfere with the home office online camera frequency. |

. Good Thread. We have two 4' flourescents in the house - laundry room and garage. 7 years, and they both work just fine. But I just may get 2 LEDs to replace them. And repurpose/move the current flourescents to above my garage workbench, and into the garage attic space (repl dinky current 60 watt bulb). We tend to keep the Laundry Room fixture on much of the day - so an LED would be viable. I checked the LED avail & $$$ at Lowes - expensive compared with Amazon - These are the ones I'll prob get - exc reviews. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...9ASDKJS1&psc=1 . .
