Default Gas Reward Programs

Newly arrived to the Villages. Noticed gas prices are pretty consistent, but a number offer discounts if you sign up for their program. Up north I had an area with competing stations that had the most competitive pricing.
Any recommendations on a favorite place to get gas? I ‘d like to only sign up for a single rewards program.

The Marathon gas station at Pinellas Plaza. Built and owned buy a villager. At 2-5 gallons at a time money isn't the question. I always try to buy from locals.

Actually a 5% cash back reward. But right now that is like a $0.175 per gallon discount.

We used a Shell program. We had a discount card something like a nickel off on a gallon. Publix ran a regular deal, something like you would buy $50 worth of groceries and you could buy a card that got you $50 worth of gas for $40 and our credit card had a similar deal where you could redeem points and get discounted, gift card.

It has all changed. Most former Shell Stations are now Circle K. and that seems to be over a wide area.

Some will report it is all the same so use whatever is cheapest. The truth as I understand it is it all flows through the same pipe. The brand difference is the detergent package that is added at the end. Which is best? It is hard for the average consumer to prove-we do not drive the same trip, same wind direction, same speed.

Unbranded gasoline, such as Walmart, Circle K, shopping clubs. Reality you do not know what you are buying. They like you are doing will buy whatever is cheapest with no effort toward quality.

PUBLIX has that deal now til 2/6. Spend $50 and get a $50 GAS GIFT CARD for $40. Any GAS CARD they happen to sell. That's like a $.70 discount per gallon. But only if you were going to spend the first $50 there anyway.

Nota big deal for us. I only gas the car every 6 weeks or so. It hurts the folks who have to buy fuel a couple times a week.

I am aware of that. They no longer offer it for Shell. Perhaps because they know, knew, the Shell station shave all become circle K. As stated I want to know what I am buying.

As far as spending the first $50. Thanks to rising prices does anyone not spend $50 a trip?

Same here.
I don't drive as much as I use to up north and walk to the stores down here for health.

A win win lifestyle, buy less gas, less frustration in traffic, save on the wear and tear on my Highlander.

Download the Marathon Make it count app. It gives you $.05 off a gallon. Link it to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account and earn points toward future flights. Combine that with the $50 gift card for $40 at Publix and you get a bit of a deal.

Maybe that's why the Marathon on 466A Pinellas is 95+% of the time a few cents more than the Circle K or 7-11 almost directly across the street from it by Trailwinds. They have to cover most of the 5c plus probably (if they are on Villages property which I believe they are) give them a piece of the action.

Default GasBuddy

Get the "GasBuddy" app for your phone. It will tell you the cheapest prices in the area. Just hit the find gas button and a bunch of stations appear. It's free at the app store.

Every time you go to fill up it is sticker shock! In Va the price jumped another .10 per gallon yesterday. Thanks to?

Marathon is top tier gas. 5 cent discount. It’s worth it. I know someone that tests fuel for a major oil company. Detergent matters over time.
