When and where can I buy the "long range" cards that they said would be part of the new system?

You would think for the amount of $$ spent in amenities fees, bond fees and maintenance fees there would be a better system in place. Fumbling around looking for a card while driving jut to wave it out the window seems very outdated to me.

I am in Newell. Mine works. Get close and move about 3-6 inches beyond the pad SLOWLY and pause (stop) for the gate. If no good. press button.

The gates only open automatically in construction mode. Of course, the gate in Dabney is still not up for some reason. But pressing the button negates the original premise.

If they have completed the upgrade, I haven't noticed any increase in range for reading here in the northern section. My mirror chip still works, but I still have to get ridiculously close on several readers for them to read. Based on this, I'm hoping they haven't finished in the northern sections yet

I highly doubt the long range will come from the cards, it will come from the reader. These cards are simple RF cards. Basically a chip with an antenna wrapped around it. The reader supplies the power via RF and then reads the chip. The stronger the signal from the reader, the greater the range.

The only way you should need a new card is if the new reader requires a different chip that provides a different reply when queried - and if that happens, everyone would need to be issued new cards.

The upgrade did not increase the range.

The upgrade made it possible to install new readers that work with new devices to increase the range. I don't believe any new readers have been installed yet and you don't have a new, longer-range device.

If they installed a new system, you can't prove it by me. Everything seems to work the same.

Then it was successful. The new system was intended to work exactly the same as before for current residents.

Going forward, the new system allows for the longer-range readers to be added and increases capacity for additional cards.

Beats..not necessary. The card works right through your window.

You don't need to open the window for it to work. I've been here 20 years and had only 2 gates that required me to open my window because I couldn't get my car any closer to it without my rear-view mirror ramming into it. I just drive up as close as I can to the sensor and hold my card up against the windshield, move it around just a bit and the gate opens. No sweat.

So, will you need to buy a new card to get a longer range? If so, when will these be available? I think it would solve most issues that people have.
