Default Going rate - roof inspection

Would some folks please share what the going rate should be for roof inspection post Irma. I think we may have already been taken for a ride.
We were charged $175 for inspection with a temporary repair. Another $125 for a permanent repair in the future. I am talking about 12-15 shingles at the most. This was by a roofing company with supposedly reputable credentials who does work for TV.
I really don't want others to fall into any trap so roofers or former roofers please give us some idea of what is fair and equitable.
Thanks in advance!

Be thankful you found a roofer and can proceed with repairs. Most of us are eating busy signals and full voicemail boxes. I'd gladly pay $300 to prevent water from coming into the house during the next heavy rain.

I don't have an answer for your question, but I'm not going on the roof for $175. My thinking is that's pretty cheap. Curious what the temporary repair is vs permanent repair.

This why most roofing companies are successful--very few people do it themselves

Advanced Finishes Central ADVANCE FINISHES CENTRAL LLC, 352-787-1450, was on our street yesterday and tarped one roof with a lot of missing shingles and repaired 4 other roofs.

Don't know what they charged but everyone was pretty happy to get their roofs taken care of.

I think you made out just fine. I had an entire house inspection done right before the hurricane for $300.00 and half of the inspector's time was spent on the roof so about 175.00 worth of his time.

Thanks so much for your answers 😀! I feel so much better about our payment. And YES, I don't want my 78 year old hubby on the roof at all. Excellent perspective on the situation.

I also think it helps people to know what is an acceptable price and what is not.

Thanks bunches! TOTV is the best .....

I agree. We have a friend back up north who has been a roofer for over 30 years and has had his own roofing business for the last 20 years. We had his company do some small work for us, about 1/2 hour on the roof. It was over $250 but well worth it.

I've got some idea what it costs him, insurance, constant safety training and monitoring, trucks and such, just to put someone on a roof... I think $175 just to step on roof seems to be a bargain.

Wow - I am VERY impressed. A GREAT Thread and postings. And in the end, resulted in the OP provided with answers and comforting responses. NO hate or belittling. nice. I would agree with the rsps - There is NO WAY I would venture up there at this point in my life - and the charges seemed quite reasonable to me. No gouging or such.
Cloud 9 = maybe provide the name of the roofing firm so others in need...

That price is reasonable, I was quoted yesterday 1150.00 to replace approx. 20 shingles. Needless to say I passed.

I would be happy to provide the name privately. Personal message me ! I don't want to put it on the thread because the way some people misinterpret what's printed, the name could likely be disparaged and not lauded.
Things get twisted and turned around too easily nowadays!
I, too am thrilled with the kind responses. I hesitate sometimes to post for fear of getting in a harangue with someone over nothing.😉

You are right. I would PM also and probably just the better way.

No way any of us over age 75 or even less should get up on a roof and mess with shingles even through we might have done it in the past.
