Ambulance and Fire service in The Villages

In this episode of 10QV I look at the current debate over ambulance and fire service The Villages and surrounding counties. The head of Villages Public Safety, Chief Edmund Cain and The District Manager Richard Baier provide their views and input on the current status and future of these services.

When I came up with the 10QV concept my primary goal was objective and unbiased journalism, my opinion was to be irrelevant and not be introduced into the show. This topic is however so fundamentally important to health and safety of the residents of The Villages, my friends, and my family that I have had to deviate from this principal.

Making and keeping the services provide by the Villages Public Safety Department the very best it can possibly be, should be a priority for each and every one of us. Please, attend the Ad-hoc committee and Board of County Commissioners meetings and let them know your opinion, let them know your support Villages Public Safety, and let them know the best way to fix the terrible ambulance service we are getting, is to put in the most capable hands, The Villages Public Safety Department.

My apologies for the sound quality and some of the video footage, I ran into some technical difficulties and the timing and schedules did not allow for reshooting. Getting the message out in a timely manner was much more important than the overall production quality.

Don and Richard both made the point about TV being a different demographic than the rest of Sumter Co. and more urban v rural. Totally agree. My question is if TV has its own Fire Dept why don’t we also have our own Police Dept? Is there some state law that would prohibit that?

Florida statue FS190 that allows the formation of the CDDs does not allow for providing specific services such as law enforcement and code enforcements, fire services have less stringent rules. Exercising FS191 Fire District formation would be a huge benefit to the residents of The Villages, it will cost us all a little more, but I think few would object (I could be wrong, some around here will complain about anything out of their own boredom).
