If a 12 year old passed you, then you shouldn’t be driving a golf cart. Not all villagers should be driving a car or a golf cart.

Learner's permit for under 18. No Driver's license unless it is a street legal tagged cart.

Everyone who drives a golf cart on the streets or MMP should be Required to pass a written test so that they know the Rules and Laws.
There are too many people driving around who have no clue or they think they know. Just saying…

I am in Newell. Meggison is a public road. The law took effect July 1. 2023. I still see 12-year-olds driving.

HuntingtonPat...go to the villages golf cart safety clinic given on July 19 9AM at colony cottage rec center to get correct answers to your questions. No charge for this very important clinic. It may save your life and the lives of those you care about.

There are "laws" and there are "policies".....

Don't forget that many of the cart rental companies and home owners (who rent their cart) establish their own policies that may be MORE stringent than any law in place.

I don’t know the local laws. I make my decisions and everyone who drives my cart has a license. I take them out for a drive to make sure they are capable before i hand over the keys and my financial future.

I know of a case that a grand parent ( who didn’t own a golf cart ) asked a neighbor across the street to let and teach her grandchild to have the experience, while here, to drive the neighbors cart. The neighbor took the grandchild up and down the street. The grandchild seemed OK, so the neighbor decided to take a ride through their village streets. The grandchild decided to turn into “ Speed Racer “ stepped on the gas make a sharp right turn into someone’s light post and landscaping. The youngster was hurt, the good neighbor paid a fine and lost his cart insurer. The cart was found to have had the speed jacked up, but that was another story. Be careful out there, accidents happen and are not planned.

Is this a new law.
The OP answers are in posts #5 and #7. Simple.

NO you do not need a valid driver license unless you are under 18. Over 18? Well, you only need a photo ID-- And YES, this is a new law from July 1st of 2024.

Tell you what, if I get injured by a child driving a golf cart their grandparents will no longer be able to afford living in TV. So irresponsible to allow them behind the wheel, no matter how much they whine .

It is not legal for children under 16 to drive a cart. It used to be 14, but the law changed to 16 just recently. Children that age should NEVER be driving a cart.

And if you can't read post #15, just above yours, then you shouldn't be posting on TOTV, or anywhere else for that matter.

That was a joke; tongue in cheek. That's the way I took it, anyway.
