Default Grass

I know nothing about grass but the grass around the postal stations south of 466a looks great this year. Can anyone tell me what type of grass that is? Sure looks better than mine. Thanks.

There are two common types of grass in the villages, St Augustine and Empire Zoysia.
Easy to tell which is which the Empire Zoysia has finer, narrower blades. Either can make a good lawn. Care is different. "Looks better than mine," Rather simple solution. What is wrong with your lawn and fix the problem. Cooperative extension is a great help and it is free or really paid for with your tax money.

I would cut out a section of grass on the edge of any issue showing good and bad.
They can tell you, first what type of grass you have, what the issue is and what to do about it.

In most lawns, bermuda grass would be considered a weed. It has the bad habit of invading your landscaping and generally growing where you don't want it. Easy to establish, but a real pain to manage.

Please, please don't plant Bermuda grass! The landscape companies don't clean their equipment between jobs and it will spread to the next customer. Once established, it's almost impossible to get rid of. I know this from experience in my previous neighborhood!

If your grass doesn’t look good with all the rain we have had lately then you probably have a critter that is destroying it . If you aren’t getting your yard treated on a regular basis it won’t ever look good. I recommend Falcon pest .

Bermuda is extremely high maintenance. It needs frequent cutting with a reel mower because a rotary mover can't cut it short enough (it would get scalped, too). Your grass cutting expense would be $$$.

All the residential yards south of 44 that I have seen have St. Augustine grass. Since I have only visited the new areas, I never paid any attention to the mail box areas. Of course, over time this could change from Village to Village. North of 44 the Developer started with St. Augustine but later switched to Empire Zoysia. Go figure.

I owned a house in Summerhill / popo Ridge, there was St Augustin grass (nothing more than controled weeds) Now in Sable Chase I have zoysia grass. Great green plush grass. It is like walking on a thick carpet. Be careful od the guy who cuts your lawn. If he/she also cuts st Augustin he will spread st Augustin grass & seeds on your lawn and it will invade your good grass. My lawn man cuts ONLY zoysia grass.
