FYI If you're a Florida resident the Auto Club has discounted 3 day Disney tickets. I believe you can get them online via the club.

We want to take our family on a Disney cruise. Kind of a retirement celebration for us. We are looking at the 1st or 2nd week in December 2015. We (everyone single one of us) have never been on any sort of cruise. The cruise we are looking at is the 3 or 4 day cruise going to Castaway Island and (possibly) Nassau. The grandkids are the perfect ages 11, 8, 6 and 2.5. Now which ship? Please give me advice and tips.

In December there are two Disney ships that go to the Bahamas - the Magic departing from Miami, and the Dream leaving from Port Canaveral. We have sailed on both of them several times, including a 14 night Panama Canal crossing on the Magic. They are both beautiful ships and the crews are fantastic on both of them. The Dream is considerably larger with more passengers, so it can feel a little cramped at times, especially in the dining rooms and at the pools. Because there are more people on board, when the Dream stops at Castaway Cay it can be a little crowded, especially on the family beach and at lunch time. All that being said, we would not hesitate to sail on the Dream again. One good thing about sailing on the Dream is that you can be at Port Canaveral in less than two hours from The Villages. The Magic seems a little more relaxed and "homey" to us, probably because of fewer people and because we've done more cruises, and spent more nights, on her than on the Dream. The Magic does have itineraries that stop at Key West as well as Nassau and Castaway Cay, while the Dream only goes to Nassau and Castaway Cay, so that may interest you. If you can swing it, I would suggest that you do a 4 night. We've only done one 3 night and it seemed too rushed to us - it felt like we had just unpacked when it was time to pack everything back up. If I can answer any questions, feel free to post here or send me a PM and I'll be happy to help. |
