Actually, I'm not sure that a raccoon would rip out downspouts...why would they want one. We do have raccoons on the golf course that is across the street from Mom's, but the creatures have not wandered through the yards on the golf course, across the street to where her home is, in the past. Why would they now and why the heck do they need gutters!

Glad you're back. Hope you had a great trip!

NOW that is funny!

Blueash.....are you reading this thread??? Did you ever find any more information about your gutter theft?

WHY in the world would anyone go around ripping off downspouts??? I am thinking to add a LARGE butterfly net to our arsenal...I don't think those squirt guns are gonna handle this. I have been practicing beating the crap out of them. Sweetie doesn't want to practice with me anymore.

We need more volunteers...anyone?

I just called a friend of mine that works at a scrap yard. Aluminum is $.35 per pound. It does fluctuate of course but that adds up fast. My bet is the Sheriff's Office Investigators have a good relationship with the scrap yards and will crack this case soon.

Is that a personal invite? HA!! (o.k. - now it's your turn again....take your best shot)

Nope, not me. Sandy's on-deck for whenever she's needed when we're in TV, though!

I find it hard to believe an animal - even a raccoon - would do that and take the downspout away.

But scrap aluminium does not have much value and the resale value on used downspouts would be very small.

Got me stumped.

It would have to be a real strong wind for gutters to be ripped off the house, but it is a possibility.

If I heard the sound of downspouts being ripped off my house at 5:30 am, I would be calling 911.

Selling downspouts for 35 cents a pound does not sound feasible. Too much risk for so little reward. However, I have heard that new homes do not come with downspouts so maybe sub-contractors have found a cheap way of getting the downspouts when they are called to install on homes?

In the meantime, I will go with the explanation of "guttersnipes".

What risk? A misdemeanor most likely. Feasible if your next score of dope depended on it.

It would have to be a stinkin' hurricane to do what we saw. There wasn't much wind that evening. Aluminum isn't going for much, that's for sure, but maybe someone wanted a straight run of downspout. The didn't take the end pieces. Other yards had end pieces scattered around. It sure is a mystery....and if it was an animal, it would have to be a very clever one who has rain flowing off their home roof...
