I am looking for ideas for where to go to get rid of about 12 gallons of old gasoline. I am very serious, my wife's corvette has not been driven for about 3 years, other then an occasional start up. and I am being told the gas ahs gone bad and this is why the fuel pumps are failing.
I did ask at Advanced Auto, and they had no idea. Looking for some place reasonable close, as I only have a 5 gallon gas container.

They had a collection today (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) Ad listed items they would take including "AUTOMOTIVE FLUIDS". Don't know if that included gasoline. Use caution - with the right air mixture a gal. of gasoline = 10 sticks of dynamite. |

Put "Stabil" in the tank - use double dose for long term storage.

I cant speak for Florida. But, in Illinois any place that did oil changes or fuel system work on vehicles HAD to accept used fluids (within a limit) from people. In the rear of every Walmart was oil - flammable - and paint containers for proper disposal of fluids. Maybe take a spin behind a Walmart and see if they have them here. Not certain if it was a State thing or a Walmart Corp. thing as to the paint and other fluids (besides oil).

Old gas essentially turns into shellac. Sure, you can get away with that in your 1980's non fuel injected car. I would not put it in an OBD2 or newer car - certainly not in my Mercedes or any other car I actually like. |

I believe most counties do have at least one collection spot for hazardous chemicals to help prevent people from just dumping it. Do a internet search for the central Florida counties.

I did the Internet search, gasoline is one of the items not typically mentioned in the Sumter county site. It was mentioned in the amnesty days, but I missed that by a day. I have a lead on an automotive store that may do this. I am hoping to find a location where I can dump the contents of my gas can, as I have only one.
I had thought about trying to us the gas, but I would need to store it for 3 to 6 months to use it a little at a time. I did find a company that handles hazardous fluids, but for companies, I left them a message to see if they know of anyone doing this for individuals. Thank you for the previous possibilities, still looking for more.

Thank you to all that replied. I will be making several phone calls Monday. I even found a business that gets rid of these types of fluids, but NOT for individuals. I did stop at one of the repair shops, as I figured they would have to get rid of gasoline once in a while also, no help. Worst case, I will buy 2 more gas cans, and store for the next amnesty day.

You could put the can full of gas in the back of your golf cart in plain sight and go shopping at Walmart. Park the cart not too near the store. It may take a few times but it will probably be stolen. You'd only be out a can and the new owner will have to deal with it and it would serve him right.
