We have vehicle with ramp for wife! If I see a cart parked there (stripped area) where the ramp is to come out, I’m calling the sheriff!

True.

Handicap placards are issued to the person, not the vehicle. State law does not differentiate: merely "motor vehicle" which a golf cart most certainly is. The only caveat (same as for cars, trucks, etc.) is that the person to whom the placard was issued must be either the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. See below:

"You cannot park your golf cart in a handicap space in Florida unless you have a valid placard due to disability. Golf carts are treated in the same way as cars and other, larger vehicles when it comes to handicap parking spaces." (andrewpickettlaw)

I’ve always been curious what the law states. I have a handicap placard and a license plate. But I’ve never used it on my golf cart to park in the handicapped spaces for cars. I honestly don’t think we should. I also understand that there are entitled people everywhere that will do what they want to do.
Here’s how it works under Florida Statutes §§ 316.1955 and 320.0848:
• A vehicle (including a golf cart) may park in a handicap space if it displays a valid disabled parking permit (placard) or a disabled license plate and is transporting the person to whom the permit/plate was issued.
• Florida law recognizes “vehicles” with permits broadly. A golf cart is legally considered a “vehicle” under § 316.003(108), Fla. Stat., which defines “vehicle” as “every device … by which any person or property is or may be transported … upon a highway, excepting devices used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks.” That definition includes golf carts.
• The disabled parking permit statute (§ 320.0848) does not restrict permits only to cars or trucks. It allows them to be displayed in any motor vehicle, which means if a golf cart is registered/operated legally on public roads and displays the valid permit, it qualifies.

I will provide my 2 cents, my wife has the handicap, she was able to get a second hanging placard for the golf cart, and when I drive the golf cart I do NOT use the handicap space, even when I have my knee brace on. I have actually had a few people ask why I did not use the handicap space, I stated I am not handicapped, several were confused when they looked at my knee.

I have a handicap plaque. The only place i don’t use it is at any VA facility.
Why because no matter how long it takes me to get to the front door, and how many rests I take, someone is always in worse condition than me. I just add an extra 20 minutes to any appointment arrival.

We did see a cart parked at the VA in the hash marks, no handicap plaque.Sheriff found the owner, ticket issued. Kind of makes you smile just a little

I wish people would do the same at public locations. I see many that could park in a space as close to (one spot over) or closer at the super stores than a handicapped spot and often times beat me into the store. I wish they could consider a person in a wheelchair or in worse condition than them when other parking is available. Down here though it will never happen because it’s a privilege not a necessity.

handicap placards are only issued to vehicles registered in florida. golf carts for most part are not registered ,except for lsv,so they cannot be used on golf cart..

Wrong !

Placards ARE NOT associated or registered to any vehicle .

They are registered to the individual PERSON.

Therefore, they can be used on a golf cart ….

Absolutely wrong. They are NOT issued to a particular vehicle, but to a particular PERSON.
