Can you upgrade vinyl siding to Hardi Plank or Hardi Board when building a new home? It's very popular along the coasts for exteriors, but I've haven't seen it used anywhere in TV. Wondering why?

I too love the look and durability of Hardi board siding, and questioned the same as you. In the midwest it is considered a great upgrade from vinyl.

We have it in Orlando and it is great plus the boards are wider than the vinyl TV is using.
It comes down to cost. My guess is you don't get a choice. |

There are some designers with a clapboard/ Cape Cod look. (Wider textured planks) If you want to see one, there is a Lantana on Havana Trail behind the Odell center that was "born" that way in about 2007.

Another choice instead of the usual vinyl siding, is a look-like cedar shake siding, but unfortunately is vinyl and much more costly.

There is a new siding option that is not a Cedar Shake or Dutch Lap.
It is a upgrade wide plank with solid foam incorporated into the construction. Not slid in behind it. If you go up and hit a designer with the Shake look or Dutch Lap siding you can see and feel it move and shake. You hit this siding with your hand and it a very solid feel no movement. And a insulation R factor is a bonus. Hit your hand on a cement home and it hurts or cracks ![]() ![]() |
