Thank you everyone (except Tony!). Great information. The car is being picked up on Thursday afternoon and will be shipped to Florida. I was shocked at the cost, some of the boxes I've been sending are $150 each via UPS, and yet a car only costs $900??? I don't get it. But anyway, I'm happy, that's one less thing I have to worry about.

Thanks for all your help. I used Chuckinca's link and wound up with a company called Bluestar Auto Movers in Ft. Lauderdale. They are excellent, so far anyway.

and they picked up the car six hours later and it was in TV in 5 days. But, you have to have it delivered to someone in TV who you send a money order to give the driver to cover the shipment.

One thing about shipping a car. Unless it is shipped in an enclosed vehicle (at at least $1K more), it must go empty. No boxes, no bags and the like. If an inspector randomly checks your car and sees boxes, etc., it will be offloaded and left at the inspection site for that state. This is a federal transportation law, not up to the trucker.

Heck no, still driving but renting a small suv, (considering Ms. Fay, I'm glad I decided to drive) but did you think I was gonna have them puking in MY car?? No way!

kidding... my car is too small to drive cross country so thought a small suv will be good, more reliable (I hope), and the doggies will be comfortable in the back seat, on top of quilts, pillows, doggie beds, and their toys!! God forbid, they are put out!! Wish us luck!!

Yes, Red is right, they ask that nothing be in the car, which is hard for me cause I still have office stuff loaded in the trunk, but its a good time to clean out the junk.

These auto moving companies are so professional in giving you information and service, that I wish our nationwide utility companies were as good. So far, I'm very happy... Getting things done to get out of L.A. on Friday. See ya in TV around Aug. 28 or 29, we hope!!

WOW... this topic has been extremely helpful to me. My daughter left her new RAV4 at my house in Oregon and she might want it shipped to Miami, if she stays there, but we didn't know of any reliable auto transporters.

THANKS Kathi, for the topic ..... THANKS chuckinca for that recommendation. There were 10 companies in my town to choose from !

Just another example of how TOTV is such a great informative site

CIB:

Your most welcome - you're right, that's what TOTV is best at, getting out the info from people who have been there and done that.
