Default Oktoberfest

Why does everyone celebrate Oktoberfest in October. And how many know what Oktoberfest really was . Just curious. Sure wish they would have good beer for it though.

You ask, I will tell you. It was started in 1810 When Prince Ludwig married Princess Theresa. It is held in Munich where my grandfather was born and there is a lot of dancin' and a lot of really good beer and a lot of lifting nice beer steins and pinching girls wearing dirndls...

The second largest celebration of Octoberfest is in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I am sorry you can't get good beer. Things have gone down hill since they started putting stuff like lime in it.

That reminds me of the time when I asked when Midnight Mass was and my wife laughed at me. I called and found out it was at 11:30!!

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is also in September. That's the big one that attracts hundreds of thousands of people. Then there are other small ones organized by the various German clubs throughout the city. Munich and Cincinnati are officially sister cities.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati has the World's Biggest Chicken Dance and The Running of the Wieners. - That's the dachshunds. -- I somehow had it in my head that there would be a lot of dachshunds joining the parade here in TV for Oktoberfest. But I guess not. (sigh) -- Gotta luv those wiener dogs and their great names like Oscar and Frank and Stretch and Moxie......

I heard that the German music on Tuesday at SS was really good. We are going to try to catch the German band tonight at LSL. There is something about a good oompah pah that speaks to me somewhere deep in my roots.

We went to the Oktoberfest Parade Tuesday at S.S.---- very nicely done. There was an adequate crowd but I did expect a larger one from past experiences. I wonder if some residents are staying away because they are expecting too many people?

Thanks for the information on Oktoberfest. German on my mother's side of the family tree.

Default Mostly in September...

Oktoberfest takes place most in September and certainly not in the second half of October.

From Wikipedia:

Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest. Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October,

He was not crazy. He built schoene Schlosse und jetst kommt den Turisten an. Bayern verdient viel Geld.

He did not want Bayern to be part of the United Germany that Bismark was building because the Koenig of Prussia would be Kaiser and would have right to declare War. Bavarians wanted peace. So the Prussians drowned him.

Went to LSL last night for the Oktoberfest celebration. Nice crowd, food vendors were doing well, and fun entertainment.
