Default Rats?

Coming home from seeing Forgetting Sarah Marshall at the Old Mill Playhouse via Rainey Trail (472), I noticed what looked like a medium sized rat cross the road by the Ashland gate? This is the first rodent I have seen in the Villages. Maybe, I do not get out much as the feral cats, hawks, snakes and gators must make some meals of these.

I have seen several when I walk in the mornings; although I must say they do not look like rats from up North. They are very small with short tails. I live off of Buena Vista towards 466A. I think these rats are coming from the fields they are bulldozing.

Yech! Rats I don't need. I left those creepy things behind when I left NYC and the subways. I hope is is the bulldozing and once that ends so will the rats.

People told me they have seen them coming out of the big clumps of ornamental grasses on the Orange Blossom golf course. I also heard they were in the ceiling of the Paradise center before they re-built it. I expect they're all around, we just don't see them that much.

They are not field mice but not as big as the ones we had in the Philippines. I think they are smaller then the ones in pictures I have seen of NY rats--BUT rats they are. My cousin said that rats like to live in Palm trees. I did not believe it until I Googled 'Rats in Palm trees'. I had a bird feeder when I lived in Santo Domingo and my neighbors said that was the reason we had rats in the area.
