Has anyone applied for and received any kind of variance for installing a pool or birdcage in TV ?

I remember reading some time ago -a post that said dont bother you never get one !! --Does it cost anything to try ?

Thanks ----

I am not sure what a variance is Kelsie.

Is it a permit to install a pool or birdcage?

If so, you must request permission from the Architectural Review Committee and they will either or confirm or deny your request based on how close to the end of the lot you plan to build.

If there is room, no problem.

Usually your contractor will know what will be okay with the ARC. If you don't have a contractor yet just check with them yourself for some guidelines. I think they are pretty strict on the setbacks and you must conform to certain standards, for example I don't think they would let you build a cage that is 50' high to accommodate your high diving board.

Give them a call at 352-751-6719

Also, read the info on page 6 of TV phone book. (Just saw that you aren't here yet, do you have a Villages phone book available? If not, here is some info that should be helpful) http://www.districtgov.org/departmen...rchreview.aspx

A variance is permission to go beyond the normal ---

I might want to install a pool --after we move in --I had some estimates and was told It would be better if I had 1.5 feet more to the rear ---

Here in NY or I suppose in other areas --you could appeal to the Town or City Dept of Buildings and if you are outside your perimeter or the structure is beyond the hight limit ---your immediate neighbors are notified and if they have no problem with it you are approved. If one neighbor disagrees you are denied.
It appears to me in TV you might not have that option --I was just wondering if anyone ever was granted an approval ---

Thanks Bogey

T/D pool told me 1.5 to 2 feet more was needed to have a standard size walkway if wanted a pool --I never asked them if it was possible to get permission and they never suggested it --so I am just trying to get some info ----

There are a LOT of new pools and birdcages being installed. If you request information from a reputable contractor they will tell you exactly what can be done. Then if you hire them they will take care of all the permits and variances (if necesary) that are required. If you have the space a pool of some design can be added to most houses.

Default variance

Development requirements for Sumter County in TV is a minimum 20' setback from the right of way of any street (front, side or back), 7.5' setback from a side property line and 10' setback from the rear property line (that is where the 'dry' utilities are located).
