There has been a homing pigeon showing up at Johnny Rocket's at Market Square the last several days. It has a band on the leg with just a number, no other identifying information. If anyone knows anything about this bird, please let one of the servers know who to call.

My dad lived during the depression and served in WW2. He had homing pigeons. He said it was a very popular hobby, I guess for boys, back than. I think I read last year that there are many theories about how they navigate and get back home but it's not a fact yet.
I wonder if the bird club wouldn't be a good group to ask. |

Probably common rock dove/pigeon that was in flock that someone banded. Unless the band numbers are registered I doubt any information could be obtained, not like song birds, migratory birds, or water foul banded birds that on going research data base.

Last week a beautiful pigeon showed up at the starter shack at Bacall/bogart. The band said 216 and Ocala. The ambassador googled something and found a number to call. No one answered but he left a message. We fed and watered the pigeon and he disappeared in a couple of days. Might be the same one at Johnny Rockets. No one ever returned the call about him.
