Smile Honor First Responders Week

Scott wants residents to honor first responders

Villagers, Let's do our part to thank local first responders!
Share ideas and rescue stories!

Which unit of resonders will you thank and how?

My mother, who had CHF, was rescued countless times and always took citrus to the rescue unit to say thanks.

I will share soul food with the station near colony..

What does a tall blonde woman make that is soul food?

I am very much for the idea, Kitty, AND I am just teasing you a tiny bit.

I love being teased and ... my real name is Marilyn, nevertheless, my natural hair was dark chocolate! (See FB)!

Grits (girls raised in the South) make blackeyes, cornbread, collards, and just to be fancy this year, chicken n dumplins instead of fried.

Ps, this plate is off a bit because there is no juice in the greens and peas. It is best to pour pot liquor, if not peas and all, over the cornbread.

Leftover cornbread is crumbled into a a glass of buttermilk and eaten with a large spoon while watching television.

Default What you can do for emts and firefighters

I spoke with John Longacre, Lieut., emergency resource specialist, at public safety headquarters on Morse.

His first words to me regarding what we can do for them were, "we never turn down food." So if you want to share a meal or other goodies with your nearest public safety station, they will be grateful and eat it all up.

There are three other ways to donate funds:

1. A gift card brought to the station that they can use to bring food to the station, such as a grocery store, subway, etc.. To be shared among staff.

2. Checks earmarked for appreciation fund should be targeted for your favorite station. Will be used for severe needs of first responders, and morale boosters, such as family day.

3. Checks earmarked for firefighter foundation (deductible) will be used across the The Villages stations for needs of firefighters.
Address for checks.

Attn Lt. John Longacre

I am very appreciative of the 32 years my husband spent as a Firefighter. I'm very proud of him.
He worked in many dangerous situations and never once complained about the job.
I honor him by by allowing him to make me breakfast in bed.

Kidding about the breakfast.

Took my southern food to Nearest fire safety station.

Photos of, from left Lt Rutter and Lt Sirkis...
Rutter "the governors proclamation is a good faith effort against the tide of negative public opinion toward police and firefighters. In view of the recent episode of shooting at firefighters in Jacksonville, the effort is welcome.
It feels good to be shown that people here support us."

Will post photo later...it is upside down!
