Default Honor Flight

The local Honor Flight chapter flies WWII veterans to Washington, DC for the day so that they can see the WWII memorial. You can read more about Honor Flight on their website, but I wanted to say that there was a flight today. To further honor the vets, several hundred people gathered at the American Legion Post on Rolling Acres Road this evening to give them a heroes welcome home. It was a touching sight to see all of the people that were willing to wait until 12:15 AM to cheer our heroes and thank them for their service. The local Boy Scout chapter was represented and they gave out free flags for the people to wave and hold while singing. The Clown Alley folks were there to entertain during the wait. The Villages cheerleaders were there to do their thing. It was a great thing in which to be a participant, considering that this is Memorial Day weekend. It was nice to see people recognizing our heroes instead of wondering what they were going to serve at the barbeque.

There is another flight on June 26th - my friend and her father will be on it. I plan to be at the send-off.

Default Honor Flight

This is such a wonderful way of showing thank you to our Veterans, Seems like a lot of people forget how much we owe to all our Vets for the sacrifices they continue to make for all of us. It was also nice to see that the Daily Sun FINALLY did a story on it... even though it took them days after to recognize something this important. I also found out that one of our local businesses has given so generously to this cause, she didnt advertise or let it be known to our community. I feel she should be recognized for what she is giving to this cause. Debbie Laufersky owner of The Villages Transportation provided all of the transportation a MotorCoach and a large van to make sure that our veterans and their guardians were transported safely to and from Orlando International. This was done completely free of charge, from what I understand there was no charge for any fuel, driver fees etc. With the difficult economy and more and more competition it is truly hard to find someone who puts others first before the almighty dollar!
