Default Hose Bibb off of the INcoming side of irrigation water at main box.?

Anyone done that? Is it code "legal"? Referring to cutting in at the box where all the irrigation lines meet.

I have no hose bib on the left side (or back) of our house and it seems the simplest, easiest and cheapest way to do it is to tap off the irrigation water main line that is directly below where I would want it. I could also go straight through the wall right into the kitchen behind the fridge and tap into the refrigerator water line (BEFORE the valve) there but that's too much work. Other than that there is no SIMPLE way to do it other than running tubing or hose all around the outside of the house which IMO is kind of silly. I have tried the 100' foot hose method but really is a PITA. and still doesn't fully reach to where I also need it.. Next door neighbor has hose bib on the side and the back and the front and I have no idea why our home only has the one near the front of the garage on the front door side. Her's is a 3/2 and ours a 2/2 but the outside design is almost identical. Same model just 2 vs 3 BR. They are about 16yrs old.

The irrig water obviously isn't drinkable and it stinks like sh1t when first turned on but I want it mainly for power washer and other roof and siding maintenance.

EDIT: Actually I noticed there is an unused "ZONE" in the main irrig switching box. Could probably just connect to that and turn it on when needed with my irrigation controller app. Hmmm.

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to use irrigation water for anything, except watering your lawn. It can stain your house or anything else.

Also, according to the plumbing code, a non-potable hose bibb must be in a locked box with a sign that clearly states that it is not potable water and not for drinking. I would also be concerned about a possible lawsuit if a person or animal drinks the water and gets sick. I wouldn't do it.

You might want to call the district office and ask. Irrigation is on a schedule and if drought conditions then irrigation is limited/reduced. This may be the nail in the coffin to using hose bib on irrigation line.

The answer to this question is easy. Just read your deed restrictions that say Irrigation/re-claimed water is ONLY to be used for irrigation purposes. Even if you were to tap into the irrigation system with a hose you would only be able to legally use the water for irrigation purposes.

As far as installing a hose bib, you would need to clearly mark it as non-pottable water in both english and spanish and if you wanted to play it safe install a hose bib with a key so it's not easily used accidently for drinking purposes.

Edit: If you live north of 466 then your irregation water is pottable but I would still look at the deed restrictions and or call ARC to see if you can add a hose bibb off that system if you are in this area. South of this area is all reclaimed water.

Seems odd to use “reclaimed” water to wash/clean anything.

Screen Room Drains of The Villages installed a hose bib inside my birdcage. I still have a hose that runs from the faucet on the front side of the house but this allows me to have a hose in the birdcage and don’t have to drag 100’ hoses352-342-7696. Easy inexpensive solution. Also had a couple of drains installed. They work great.

If you're going to use it just for yard things, go for it. People should not be drinking from your water supply whether potable or not. I say go for it

Something about the laws doesn’t match up.

Yea, I may as well just drag the hose. . I personally don't like the idea of a hose around 3 sides of my home. Would likely be around 125+ feet to where I want it. I guess I'll just keep doing the hose drag routine when necessary.

As for the drains, I had them put in a couple of years ago and for me they are totally useless. Since they have a small "lip" around them there is still plenty of dirt filled water that pools up below the drain opening when I try to power wash my lanai that can't drain out. I end up just sweeping and blowing it out the screen door and through the screens anyway (we have a small lanai). Also, the covers on them became so brittle the plastic hinges broke off within a few months. The do snap on because without them it's a GECKO (yea yea, ANOLE) golf cart tunnel!

Yea, looks like it's time to again power wash the lanai but most all the spots that look like dirt are mostly the paint design speckles on the cement.
