Call TECO if you have a gas hot water tank. A lot of satisfied people on this site in past.

We found TECO to be the best deal.
They subcontract the installation. If there is something you didn't like just call TECO they will correct it or make it right.

Anyone done an **ELECTRIC** (NOT gas) water heater replacement as a DIY ??? Seems pretty simple and I do have all the tools for both the electrical & piping. Are permits needed for ELECTRIC WH install ??

whoa nelly....$2000.00 is a rip off.

Just talked to Nina at Kiley & Sons
...Local folks in Lady Lake
352-753-5301

Kiley & Son is an AUTHORIZED TECO INSTALLER
The Kiley Tech named Roger Smith did mine.
Roger did an excellent job.
I called at 4PM and they did same day install.

She confirmed prices.....They did mine last year
for same price they quote today

40 gallon gas... ...
NET PRICE ...after $ 350 Rebate is $ 640
That INCLUDES
..... new EXPANSION TANK, Tray and ALL
misc. and parts
necessary for complete INSTALL
AND take away of old unit .....

I paid $990. and got a $ 350 rebate = $ 640. NET to me

BUT...I think Teco also has a 60 months same as cash
where they add 10 bucks or so a month to your bill to pay for it....
... so you don't have to front the money

Sounds expensive for sure but without full specs you can't be sure as it also depends on TYPE of tank if gas. Some are 2-3x more than others (excluding tankless) so it also depends on exactly what the OP was quoted on vs. what everyone else is getting. Of course there was capacity differences but very important was hot water recovery time. The fastest recovery tanks were over 2x the price of the lowest end ones. Then there was different venting types, higher efficiency and on and on so like everything else saying "I paid $XX" or "they quoted $xx" is meaningless unless you are comparing apples to apples unless here in FL there is only one type you can buy which is doubtful.

If the over $2,000 quote is for a standard tank type water heater, I think it is shameful. I hope the OP will name the contractor.

Yes, done several, swap the 220v electric cord, install new pipe fittings, pressure pop off drain line, new hoses and plug it in. In okieland I was on well water with pressure tank. Water heater might last 8 years there. I alway brought the 10 year warranty one and usually got freebie before warranty ran out. Hear, got have small expansion tank which added hundred or so bucks. I considered having 220V line ran to go electric.

Gas not that hard it don’t mind fooling with gas lines.

Thanks. Electric & plastic seems easy. Hardest part seems to be taking the old one off the shelf and lifting the new one up! Yea, did a Navien gas tankless in NJ but didn't want to get 500 messages saying it wasn't safe to DIY. Even ran a copper recirc line but we had a crawlspace so it was easy to reach the MBR line from below.

Call another plumber - I used Dunstan Plumbing from Leesburg - excellent work and came when scheduled - plumber did not recommend an electric tankless water heater
