Maybe you should think about doing it yourself. It's not difficult, at all.

If you install the tankless in the same location as the original, it will take just as long for the water to get to the faucet. Now if you move the tankless closer to the end use location it will be much quicker. Best solution is a recirculating pump. You place it at the most distant faucet location. It requires a 120 volt receptacle to plug into. It connects into the hot and cold water lines. Mine had a timer, and also a thermostat. During the selected times, it would pump the hot water into the cold water line, and continue to do that until hot water is at that location. You do not waste any water since you are recirculating it. Cost installed approx $500. Your only issue will be that the cold water will be somewhat warmer during the selected recirculate times.

The price depends on size of the hot water heater type electric or gas water heater what they have to do to remove it and take it away. Since you live in an area that has a high recovery water. My recommendation you purchase a point of use one at The home depot not a hot water tank. You will save a great deal of money on fuel usage. Then you could get estimate from the The home Depot contractors which is very pricey because their contractors have pay for your lead to the store. or a local licensed plumber which doesn't

Anyone confirm if this is the right ballpark? I guess it's been too long since I had this done. (I was expecting half that price)
I'd be shocked, too. I replaced mine a year ago through Mike Scott Plumbing and it was just under $1000. That was with a new expansion tank AND a $300 rebate from the gas company. My next door neighbor was charged a similar cost, but a friend who had his water replaced recently paid less than $800, and it was the same size tank. KEEP SEARCHING!

How do you open your shutters with the faucet handle in the way? I had this same problem and was forced to change out faucets. It was my mistake for not considering that in the first place.

Right...stick with the big box stores. Better prices and guarantees. For that kind of money, opt for a tankless heater. In fact, I’d say pot for tankless from Lowe’s or HD.

2k sounds like a senior citizen rip off to me. 2K to me is a bit to much when the the best water heater only runs maybe $900. that’s a $1,100. Maintenance charge. So I guess if you think that’s a deal, buy it.

If it is gas, call the gas company, they replaced ours for $9.99 per month added to our gas bill for 60 months.

Way too high even for a tankless system with installation. Contact TECO. Very reasonable for tank and tankless units and they send out the plumber to remove old tank and install new tank. There is an extra cost for the permit if you are replacing a tank system with a tankless one.

Two weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon , we discovered our hot water was spewing water out of the top. Apparently this had been happening for awhile because the double doors to the water heater / HVAC closet were swollen. I called Mike Scott Plumbing and they arrived about an hour later. We upgraded from a 40 gallon to a 50 gallon electric tank. The total cost was $860 and included a new pressure tank. We were extremely happy with the service Mike Scott Plumbing did. Then called the warranty department and found out what company installed the doors in our house. Our new doors will be and installed in this week for under $300. Lesson learned, check the water heater closet daily, water never leaked into the garage.
