A few hours ago I was driving on BV at 33 mph and a golf cart on the MMP passed me. Not a LSV, no tags, just what appeared to be a standard Yamaha cart. I caught up and paced this "golf cart" at 39 mph!!!!. I didn't know it was even possible to modify it to go that fast--turbo charged??? jet fuel????redesigned transmission??? Modified engine????? There were 2 kids about 5-7 years old in the front seat with grampa. I'm no mechanical engineer, but I'm sure the structure/chassis of these carts are not built for that speed, they cannot handle all that well at 39, and the injury potential has to be huge. What are some people thinking????

Tell me it wouldn't have been funny if the Police stopped you for speeding.

In the thread on Child Endangerment In A Cart, I just posted about having license plates on carts being a good way of identifying lawbreakers. Your posting reinforces that idea! I wonder if Gramps has full coverage on that cart in case of an accident - but - Gramps may find out the hard way the insurance may not pay for carts that have been modified to go over the legal speed of 20 mph. |

I have been passed by a cart on Pinellas Place, when the GPS stated I was going 30.5 mph, I am sure the cart was going 35.
Gears and large tires will probably get that speed, and possibly resetting the governor.

That's cool, wish I knew how he did it so I can get mine going that fast.

If you want to discuss slow drivers in the left lane on Interstates, I'm with you. But residential streets are different. Is the speed limit on Enrique Dr. 30 or just 25? I think his point was not that he was going too slow, but that the cart was going way too fast. |

No likely. The trade off for the top speed created by gears/tires is a loss of acceleration.

I just got in from the store, one of the stops was the new Steinmark in the Kohl's Shopping Center behind the McDonalds. Somebody came in and said there was a man outside in a golf cart lost. That shopping center is across Rolling Acres Rd., no regular carts are allowed.
He had a beautiful red & black Yamaha with a black Sleek Enclosure and red/black Ultimate Seats, SS Wheels, but I didn't see a license plate. What was amazing was the driver must of been in his 80's and said he was trying to get to the hospital, I could just imagine him driving across Rolling Acres Road. He said he had been lost for 4 ro 5 hours. One of the store employees had him call someone on his cellphone and they explained the situation and gave directions for someone to come pick him up. I don't know how they'll get his cart home unless he calls a cart tow service. |
