Has anyone used a contractor to clean their duc's? What was the cost to have this done?

It was slightly less expensive than cleaning the geese.

I would like to know also. AND do they open all of the ducts and clean them or just some of them? To me that is the key question.
I was given a name and a price but I forgot and the person is out of town until Friday.

Do you guys have Hepa filters for the home?
I have never had AC or a heat pump system. Would that not trap the dust before it got up in the ducts? Just asking- |

http://www.munnair.com/webapp/GetPage?pid=19 I priced them not too long ago but don't recall what they charge. Seems though that it was a bit pricey. It covers up to 13 intakes IIRC and they stated that they do have to drill some holes to get to areas of the ducs then put plugs into the holes for future access. I'd check them out but I would also get a few more quotes with descriptions of what they do. I'm sure I've seen others make recommendation in this area in the past!

Gracie - I doubt they would be messin up your walls. If your house is like most all I've seen around here, all the ducts are in the attic. We had the ducts cleaned in VA and it was a 2 story house, and they didn't cut any holes in the walls. They did cut a hole in the duct in the basement to attach their high power vacuum. They also patched up the hole when they wer through.

The residential duct work supply and return plenums are fiber board. Insulated flexible ducts run off of these plenums to supply diffussers and return grilles. I am very interested in learning their duct cleaning procedure that can actually clean the inside of these ducts without damaging them. If the interior lining on the plenums is broken loose fiber glass will be in the supply air. If the flex is ripped supply air will discharge in the attic. If the return flex is ripped then attic air and house insulation can get into system.
This type of system is very common all over Florida and I suppose many other southern states. Up north the better systems have metal ducts w wrapped insulation and a minimum of insulated duct off of the metal duct at each diffusser. |

I just hang duc tape at various vents - it catches dust kind of like fly paper. Just remember to change it every month. Hope this helps.
