Default Roof rats?

I know roof rats can be found in Orlando but I am wondering if anyone has heard of any being found in The Villages? And, if so, how they were eradicated.

Or, as James Cagney said, "You dirty (roof) rat".

Sorry. Back on topic.

Saw a couple of the little rascals at bacall by the palm trees a week ago. You will not eradicate them. They are attracted to fruit trees, bird feeders, grain bins at the cattle/horse ranches, and date palms. They actually nest in the palm trees. These are not the disease carrying norwegian rats you see in the cities. These are more like squirrels or chipmunks. They were here long before we were, and unless you eliminate everything they are attracted to, they will be here long after we're gone.

Been in TV 10 years two different homes. Have not seen any rats in trees or on roofs. Even if I did would not flee TV. Not something to get all hyped up about. Check it off your list.

This is why, as much as I miss feeding the birds, I will NOT have a feeder here. I would love to have some feathered visitors to my yard but not at the expense of attracting rats. I saw one run through the back yard about 11 years ago and haven't seen one since. Our neighborhood had a problem a few years ago with rats getting into the wiring in vehicles left outside at night. It would seem that our trash, left by the curb overnight, would be a big draw for these rodents but we have had no problems there.....yet!
