Our house is almost 2 months old, and the laundry tub/sink has stains in it already. We have only washed the steam pad from our Shark and a floor mop, and have not put anything greasy or otherwise in it. We have tried scrubbing it with Barkeeper's Friend (recommended by the builder), and that doesn't help.

I placed a call to the warranty dept., and the plumber came out. He was clueless as to what to do. Our builder then came out, and scrubbed it with Barkeeper's Friend and a Triple-Zero steel wool pad, but that didn't help. He didn't know what else to do.

Any suggestions?

We had this identical problem at our old house in Ohio. Unfortunately the only solution we ever found was to replace the thing with stainless steel. There just isn't a way to get the stains out. I often wondered why they are manufactured with the current materials at all.

Try Magic Eraser. Barkeeper's Best Friend was going to be my first recommendation but when that doesn't work, Magic Eraser is my next trick for sinks. Has worked a few times. Once had to use Tilex but I really hate going that route.

Have you tried Oxi Clean?

My sink gets a lot of use and it does get stained. I kinda figure that is what happens to a sink that is subjected to the type of use it gets. As long as I have scrubbed it, bleached it or oxi cleaned it, I consider it clean and I can live with the stains.

I use Soft Scrub & Clorox Clean up works pretty darn good. Not at the same time but rub it in and let it sit then wipe off.

I normally try to remove stubborn spots with non-abrasive products. It does not hurt if you try making a paste of baking soda mixed with lemon juice. Let it seat over the spot for a good 5-10 minutes to react. Then scrub with with a non-abrasive sponge.
I did these steps over some "rust-like" spots on the bath tube and it came out clean. Make the paste stronger or leave it longer depending on the nature of the spot.

Ditto on the suggestion to use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Takes out scuffs and stains on just about everything. Just wet and use, don't put chemcials on it.

Another tip, when you get those awful black scuff marks on your car from shopping carts, etc. wet the magic eraser and gently rub the scuff and it disappears with NO scratches left behind.

Soak a cloth with white vinegar. Place cloth in area where the stain is in the tub and let set for a half hour or so.
Rinse. Repeat for other sections in tub.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions! I forgot to mention we had already tried the Magic Eraser, and unfortunately it didn't work. I will try the other tips, and see what works best--and will try to remember to post about that. Bleach will be a last resort attempt, since I'm sensitive to that stuff.

I realize it's only a laundry tub. But this happened when it's less than 2 months old, we wondered what it will look like in a year if it's this way now.
