Here's what I need to get the TV off the entertainment center and easily transport it to the curb for pickup. Anyone got one of these they aren't using this weekend?

I would put add in Craigslist under “free”. If it works good somebody will want it. Old TV better than NO TV. I had old working hot tub went in 3 hours.

I wouldn't mind taking it apart (if I have to) to get rid of it. It's just that I'm not sure that would be easy, and I'm not sure how safe it is doing that. If you left it off for 48hrs you shouldn't have any issues. You can always discharge whatever concerns you with a screwdriver (with rubber handle ). Likely the only actual tube is the CRT which you would have to take to a recycling center. The rest is all solid state stuff in multiple circuit boards. It's also fun, didn't you always want to see how it works! I've cut up a couple of LCD TV's (biggest 42"). They easily can go into 1 bag. I've always been good at breaking stuff. Just ask my wife!

You'd still have to lift it up onto the platform which is 17.1" off the ground from the specs.!

Best Buy takes old electronics including TV’s. They just announced a service where they will pick it up and dispose of it for $200. Not cheap, but easy on your back. If you buy a new TV from them and have it delivered, they will take the old one for free.

For $200, Best Buy will haul away your two biggest hunks of tech junk

I don't think so. I would just raise the platform to the same height as my entertainment center (about 25") and then roll it alongside where the TV is sitting. Then I could just push/slide the TV off the entertainment center and onto the lift table, and then roll it out of the house. No lifting required.

Can't you just find two strong guys working in the neighborhood and pay them $40 each to carry the TV out to the curb? I know that I could.

I might be able to find a couple of strong guys to do it. The guy who cuts my grass appears very strong and in good shape, but his helper is a smaller, older guy who I don't think could do it. Maybe the strong one could find a different helper one day and earn some extra money for about 10 minutes of work.

I also know a guy who does tree trimming and similar work. He might be interested in doing the job when he's in the neighborhood. Thanks for the suggestion.

Entertainment center? Beware many of the not very old entertainment centers will not fit the new larger TVs. We bought our TV from Best Buy. The salesman had a great line which is valid-no one wishes they bought a smaller set. The set we bought, would not fit in my car. I seem to recall we paid like $35 for delivery and set up. The packing is at best marginal. Broken, damaged is not that unusual. Also, I would suggest you plug the TV, the box etc into a surge protected power strip. How many times do we get told to shut off and reboot the ???????? far easier than needing to move the furniture etc to get to the outlet. Just turn off the power strip.

If you pay the few bucks for a set up, I would guess you could get the guys to pick up your old set.
