Default Going to Design Next Week and we're looking for people's experience with pools

We are in the Design Center next week building our home and have decided to have a pool. We think we know what we want but would like input from other's with experience in going through this process and actually living with one. We've had a large hot tub the last 15 years in former home and loved it but don't feel we need one anymore so am leaning towards just a pool vs pool + hot tub option. Can anyone make a valid case for having a hot tub as part of pool package? I feel if we really want a hot tub down the road we can install a small above ground one and plug in to outlet but don't even think we will want. We will be on gas so our pool will be gas heated and am strongly thinking we will have the solar set up added as well especially since most of one side of roof faces directly south. Also, would love to hear what other's costs have been in heating, cleaning of pool, etc. Thanks!
