Gary's mother's second husband was named Clifford Morse. I assume that Clifford adopted him.

All references I have read say Gary Morse is the son of Harold Schwartz.
I think Gary's mother divorced from Schwartz and remarried a Morse. Gary's last name was changed from Schwartz to Morse, through adoption by his step-father. |

This is an interesting thread and it has made me wonder... just curious about the legalities of this.. would Mr. Schwartz have had to agree to let Mr. Morse adopt Gary as his son?

Someday I hope to read a carefully researched book about the Morses. I hope that BK Cunningham will do the research and PTurner will write the book.
I would like to illustrate it. In this book, questions like this will be answered and also I could see more about the personality of Mr. Gary Morse, who I am guessing is a quiet man, not shy, but chooses his social friends carefully. I am guessing that son Mark and daughter Jennifer are more social but like many of our children bear a little of the marks of being raised with quite a lot of the "things" they have wanted and needed. I know this. They run a business like a well oiled machine. I do not worry about HOW our new home is being built or whether we will close on September 21st as promised. We have built several homes where we felt that we needed to carefully watch each phase. I don't feel like I need to worry about the details of building here. AND it goes so FAST. Ten days ago the lot was staked out and yesterday the walls are completed. They have the building process down to a science. I like to see them do what they do best, which is building homes and although not everyone will agree with me, I think they do a very good job with all of the other details of this moderately sized city. Probably better than most similar sized metropolitian areas run by a committee that was voted in. Anyway... I am waiting for that book for the unanswered questions.

I agree Gracie. We've been in the Villages 11 years and have built 2 homes here & not a single problem or complaint with either one !!!

I was told the last name of Harold Schwartz' children was changed to Morse during WWII in response to anti German and antisemitic prejudices.

I heard the same thing Chuck said. I believe this reason for the name change is true. I think I even read it somewhere.

Gary changed his name when he was a teenager, years after WWII.
