Today I went with a neighbor to play mah jongg at Big Cypress Recreation Center. The women were so unwelcoming to say the least. I have played at other Recreation Centers in The Villages and never felt uncomfortable. I asked a group of three women if they would consider playing with five women and they said no. I asked two other women if they would join us and both of them said no. Finally someone came in and agreed to play with us. I've lived in The Villages for the past three years and never encountered such an unfriendly group of ladies. I moved to the Village of Charlotte last month and I wanted to try the groups south of 466A. I'm just hoping this isn't an indication of how the women behave in this neck of the woods. Needless to say I won't be returning there again.

The lady who taught the beginners the day I stopped in was extremely knowledgeable and rather friendly, within the need to be firm and keep the 4 beginners on track.

The next week 3 new players (I was one) were placed at a table with an experienced player, who didn't appear to want to play with the new players. It was a very stressful session, the experienced player kept pushing us to be faster. I could see the discomfort I was feeling on the faces of the other beginners.

My fix - I haven't gone back. Luckily I found a few other ladies interested in friendly games and we play at the home of one of them.
