Default How does one hang a metal ornamental piece on the outside vinyl panels?

I've searched the internet for the correct way to hang a metal ornament on the vinyl siding inside our lanai, but didn't see anything worthwhile. Any suggestions? Thanks.

ACE Hardware sells a special hook, won't damage the vinyl.

OP, if you have vinyl siding you should also have OSB over the entire outside wall, therefore if the metal object is not real heavy you can hang anywhere. What i have done is to use a 1.5 inch stainless steel screw with a 1/2 inch spacer. Place the screw through your hook, place the spacer on the screw, and then screw the assembly into the wall just below the ridge in the siding. The spacer will allow you to tighten the screw without caving in the siding. I have also used the hooks that go into the horizontal groove of the siding and IMHO these work well for light duty.

What would you use to hang chimes, plants etc. from the vinyl panels on the ceiling of the lanai?

You will need to get a stud finder and locate the roof truss that is above the vinyl ceiling. The roof trusses should be 2 feet center to center . You will need a fairly heavy hook screw depending on the weight of the plant

Some vinyl panels on lanai ceilings are attached to OSB (oriented strand board sheathing, a bit like plywood), while in many places the vinyl is nailed to the rafters or roof trusses. If I’m hanging anything at all heavy from a ceiling, I want it to go directly into a rafter or truss, and I want a screw made for that that won’t easily pull out. Where are these trusses? Sometimes you can tell by looking for faintly discernible lines where the vinyl is attached to the trusses, but not always. If the vinyl is attached to the trusses and not at random to OSB, then you can easily find it with a stud finder, as there will be a line of nails every few inches. However, most people would need a ladder, electric drill, and electric screwdriver for this. Someone at Lowe’s or Home Depot can help you get the right screw.
