Somewhere I saw a thread about an appliance repair service that takes away appliances that need repairs and fixes them. I am getting a new refrigerator because the icemaker does not work and about every 10 days I find water on the floor. The refrigerator part and freezer part maintain the set temperature and have no problems. I just cannot figure why it has water coming from the bottom so I’m just going to replace it. I know I can pay Home Depot or whoever I get the new one from to take it away and they will take it to the dump. I hate to do that as overall, the refrigerator works fine.

I had a similar problem, it was the defrost cycle on the freezer and a plugged drain line, took a quick YouTube video about 30 minutes and a new part ($20), and that was several years ago, no leaks since.

If the icemaker doesn't work, it could be that there is a leak in the icemaker reservoir where the incoming water empties into the reservoir. If so, you need a new icemaker. But, personally, if you have already decided to buy a new refrigerator, I would just let the installer haul it away. You can tell them that the refrigerator still works. It's not worth the hassle of having two contractors coming into your house.

Do you really want an amateur mover coming into your kitchen and hauling away a refrigerator? I don't.

My frig leaking water from the hose to the ice-maker/water dispenser. Hose was routed over the compressor, which generates heat while running and made the hose brittle after 12 years of operation.

Most people are not capable of moving a refrigerator from the kitchen to the driveway. To me, it is much easier to allow the installer of the new refrigerator to haul away the old refrigerator. Personally, I really don't care what they do with it.

Icemakers are the Achilles heel of all refrigerators. Expect problems. I just bought and new refrigerator from Home Depot and they charge 50.00 to haul away the old one.
Well worth it. |

If my car had an ashtray, I would be physically able to empty it. That is not the case of fixing my refrigerator.
