Thumbs up Very Deep Breaths

While the concern on how we will be affected is very warranted, please try not to exacerbate the problem with worrying so much that our hospitals are inundated...with those with heart/anxiety problems.

Easy to say I know, given the age demographic here, but even with the worst case scenario(s) we're not in danger of storm surges, cat 4/5 winds and basically are in a good location...where we don't have to worry about actual 'life-threatening' situations like near the coasts.

Anyway, here's hoping that everyone is able to exhale a huge sigh of relief on Tuesday and the biggest issue...is finding someone to replace some roofing shingles or cut a few tree limbs.

Good luck...to all of us.

Thank you -- I needed to hear this since I find the closer Irma gets, the more anxious I am feeling. Worried about life threatening situation as well as destruction of home. Need to get it all in perspective. Breathe ... breathe ... breathe. And a whole lot of prayers. Thanks again, CNM.

I think many people who have never been through a hurricane are frightened because it is an unknown.
Having lived mostly somewhere along the Atlantic Ocean and in Florida over 30 years, I am still not cynical because I have seen what a hurricane can do.
We all should be cautious and listen to what the meteorologists say.
We should listen to what local newscasters and city officials tell us to do.
Don't worry about things you have no control over, but be preemptive and think constructively about "what if" kind of things.
Clean your bathtub and fill it.
There may be some blown over trees and things like that, but everyone will be fine.
Have a glass of wine. No. Have two or three! Then relax.

Is there plywood anywhere? My large windows on frame house look nice, but are a big liability now.

Praying for safety for everyone, to be strong in spirit, and to be calm in the face of danger.

If you're filling your bathtub, fill a baggie with ice and put it over the drain. Will create a tighter seal than the plug.

Yes, the storm itself is. Be smart and listen to what experts are telling you. Take this serious.

Hey from Kentucky everybody!
We're watching the forecast closely since we JUST BOUGHT a winter home down there.
Good timing, eh?
Pray for the cops, EMS, fire fighters and all the other first responders who will be running INTO the wind and waves!
Stay safe down there.
And remember, no matter what happens, God is on His throne.

I know how you feel. I closed on my Village home last week. I'm up north now and feel so helpless.

It's pretty late now to be thinking of that, but check Home Depot or Lowe's.

But the plug won't float to the top.

My brother owns an apartment complex in south FL. He wanted all windows covered with plywood. It cost him $250./sheet. Let the gouging begin.

Hey, we bought in 06/06 and were hit by "the tornado" 02/07. Still here 11 years later.
