Is it hard to find a seasonal rental that allows pets and, is the monthly rent more or would the owner require a deposit?

Also, when you rent does that include utilities or is that different with each property owner?

We are considering renting this winter and we have 2 small, well behaved, quiet, house trained dogs. I'm just wondering if we're going to have a hard time finding something to rent because of our girls.

Hello justanormalgirl, From what I have heard, rentals that allow pets are not as plentiful as "no pet" rentals. I'm just a wannabee, but from what I understand the months of January-February-March are high season in TV, so I would start looking now if you want to rent this winter.

I'm not sure about the utilities question as I have only rented in TV for one week at a time so the landlord paid for the utilities.

Try www.thevillages4rent.com or www.****.com. Also try the classified ad section of www.thevillagesdailysun.com, check on furnished houses for rent. When you are looking at the www.thevillages4rent.com, check the box "pets allowed" to show rentals that allow pets. Good luck to you in your rental search.

I have two rental homes and do not rent to folks with pets. I really like both cats and dogs, but you would not believe the number of people who ask "has there ever been pets in the home?" And they will not rent from you if that answer is yes. It was such A high percentage that I started to track it this April and I only have a sample of 18 right now but it's 50%. I would have guessed that much, but want better data so will track it for a year.

Those that do accept pets generally ask for an additional security deposit of around $300 over the normal deposit. Rents stay the same. Most rentals that are not long term, 6 months or less, include utilities. Most homes are already booked for next January to March. You may find some new to the rental market homes that become available, but start looking now.

We are currently in our 3rd rental and all have been "pet friendly" but we did have to pay pet deposits which I think is very fair! All of our utilities have been provided in each rental plus a golf cart. I don't think your biggest problem will be the pet for the winter but almost everything is rented here January through March with the snowbirds coming in for the winter.

I am renting a pet friendly home for two months this winter and have done so in the past. No deposit at either location. I did ask TV if they had any pet friendly rentals and they said yes. The deposit was only $100 for the pet. There are pet friendly rentals available so keep looking. Trty TV. Good Luck!

I discovered that "Pet Friendly" means dogs -- NO cats.

We had 2 old cats, and our pet sitter in Utah graduated and moved away to college, so we HAD to buy in The Villages if we ever wanted to come back here.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

If you wanted to rent in months other than Jan, Feb, March, you could probably find something fairly reasonable fairly easily. HOWEVER I think you will have a very difficult time finding someone that has those three months for 2012. Most renters book winter a year in advance. Not saying it cant be done, but i would start looking today.

Aw, now it's just cat. Singular. Actually, it's more like 3/4 of a cat; we only have our 3-legged cat, Baby Monroe.

And nobody would rent their "pet-friendly" house to us.

We're not sure what we want to do at this point but after the last few months we've had, spending the winter in Florida, with no stress, sounds pretty good! We're not apposed to renting in Ocala either, we have friends who live in Oak Run there.

I rented in Liberty Park for 45 days and I had my two cats rent with me. I had to pay an additional $100. Finding a place that would allow cats was a little work but I ended up finding four places that would allow cats. The place I ended up in...the ad said no pets allowed but I asked the owner for an "allowance" and they said OK. They had had a cancellation for February, 2011 and, I think, anxious about getting a renter at the last minute.

Utilities are usually included.
