I would appreciate any ideas of what to do with a 9' x 9' concrete slab. The only thing I have on it is a gas grill. I was thinking of putting a glider with a canopy on it, but wasn't sure if it would blow away. I don't really want to take care of plants.

how about a pergola? and there are some very good looking and realistic looking artificial plants.

a low circular table with a center than can either be a fire pit or a cooler - of course surrounded with very comfortable chairs.
