I love my lanai and the breeze so I don't really want to enclose it but when it rains sideways (we have an exposed lot) the whole lania gets wet. Has anyone put any kind of shades or awnings on their lanai that helps keep the rain out?

If you live in FLorida get used to a "wet and Dirty" screened lanai. Shades or Awnings are not really the answer for the blowing winds could cause more damage than what it is worth. Shades will help for sun protection but thats about it.. At one point we added rain gutters which minimally helped but again when the rain blows it all gets wet.
Sorry I dont think there is an easy answer to resolve your problem...a problem that most people have who move to TV. |

I agree. Shades and Awnings will not do a thing. I put in the up and down acrylic windows as opposed to the full length slide left and right. With the up and down sliders you can keep the top cracked and get a breeze even when the rain is falling.
I keep them wide open most of the time and when the rains hit I close them. Works great.

But, isn't there a problem leaving anything open here at this time of year? I mean, if you happen to be away all day, but when you leave it's clear, not a cloud in the sky so you leave a window open (or whatever might enclose your lanai), and suddenly along comes a gullywasher (just had one here in the last half-hour), and everything is wet!
I certainly agree that it is just something that you have to learn to put up with. SWR ![]()

If I am gone for the day I close them - just like I would the windows in the rest of the house.
