Hi,

My husband and I are considering a house in Sanibel. We have read "be careful about being too close to a Rec Center because of the pinging from pickleball". The house's backyard is across the street from the Rec Center and it looks on the map as if the pickle ball courts are about a block into the center. Is this something about which to worry?

We are so excited about TV and will be coming for our Lifestyle Visit in August and plan on buying then. Retirement is about 2 years away but I find a different, suitable house every day!

Just go to an area about the distance from your lot to the courts in the early morning or evening and see if the noise bothers you. People have varying tolerances for noises of all types.

We live about 200 yards from the Odell pickleball courts - up the golf course. Pickleball starts daily a few minutes after the sun cracks the horizon. Having said that I cannot hear it from inside the house but can from the lanai. But really not loud enough to be a problem.

Not sure you will find a spot where you don't hear the "pinging" sound. I suppose you can get far, far away from the rec center, but then you lose that convenience. You'll get used to it!

The pickleball paddle sounds doesn't bother the players - get out and get some fun and exercise!

First, welcome to TOTV. You will get varying opinions, so here goes mine:
I'm a early riser, usually around sunrise. Having my personal quiet time has become a morning ritual. Having coffee on the patio (soon will be the lanai), personal reflection and watching the sun come up can be as spectacular as the sunsets. If you are a morning riser, the echoing sounds of the pickle balls are a lot different from a distant train whistle, which can be rather soothing.

Second, I realize a number of people bought on their first visit, but we wanted to stay in different areas and decide whether it is better to be closer to the squares, to shopping, mail stations, golf courses or the rec centers.

If you live far away and can't make several trips down, then that is a different circumstance. Checking out the many villages can be quite a challenge on your initial lifestyle visit (at least it would be for us). Too much for my feable brain to absorb in one week. However, you seem to have chosen Sanibel, so you have done some research. However, make sure you understand the "bond" will be anywhere from $13K for a villa to $21K for a home, on top of the cost of the house, as well as some other expenses.

As another reply stated, we all have different tolerances to sounds. Pickle ball is not one that I think we would get use to, as we will be on the lanai in the mornings as well as the late afternoons (premium times for pickle ball players). I like to suggestion of going to the area you are considering early morning and late afternoon; that will certainly give you some idea of what you will be dealing with.

Best of luck in your journey and in finding your "piece of paradise". We closed on ours last Monday, got our "green cards" and hope to be moved within 45 days. OH, we are not close to a rec center!

We live next to Captive Rec Ctr and the pickleball is not a problem. There is a netting around the courts that keeps the sound in. I can here the pickleball more at Colony than Captiva. If you want to stop by and hear for youself send me a PM. I can give you a couple of Chairs to sit on the Lanai of your future house and hear for youself.

Thanks for all the advice and maybe we moving too fast... It is definitely easy when reading how fast the homes are going, prices are rising, etc.

The house we were considering sold so hopefully we won't have to deal with the sound.

I am an early riser also - I do enjoy quiet time.
